Set during the Depression era in a drought-stricken rural town, where Lizzie Curry, a spinsterish woman, lives with her family on a struggling cattle ranch; a charismatic conman named Starbuck arrives, promising to bring rain for a fee, which disrupts the family dynamics and allows Lizzie to see herself in a new light, ultimately offering a glimmer of hope amidst their desperation.
This design and models was created as part of a Senior Capstone Project at Emerson College in 1992. It was designed as a thrust stage with false beams. Scenic art techniques included wood graining and aging for floors, posts and beams. It also included a painted cyclorama depicting drought stricken farmlands.
