Charles Laurent

About Me...

At 55 years old, I bring over 25 years of dedicated experience in teaching children. While some may view my age as a disadvantage, I believe that age is merely a feeling. With a wealth of wisdom and patience, I also draw from my past life in the theatre. I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Emerson College in 1993, specializing in Theatre Tech and Design. My professional journey includes roles as a Tech Assistant, Lighting Crew member, Scenic Painter, and Assistant Designer under the esteemed Tim Jozwick, who has made significant contributions to both Emerson College and The Loretto-Hilton Repertory Company in Missouri.

Throughout my career, I have embraced the opportunity to work with middle and upper school students on various high school productions. One of my proudest moments was staging The Addams Family Musical. Though I may be biased, I truly believe it was one of the finest high school shows in Rhode Island, performed in a 50-year-old “cafetorium.” More recently, I received a nomination for a Providence Performing Arts Center Ocean State STAR award for my designs and scenic art for the school's 2025 production of "Annie"

While my skills may seem a bit dated, my passion for theatre is as vibrant as ever. I find immense joy in painting and designing; sketching, drawing, and painting are what center and inspire me. I welcome the challenges of hard manual labor and the long hours of painting scenery, seeing them as opportunities to learn and grow.

I aspire to redefine my journey as Charlie Laurent, someone who fearlessly pursues his passions and returns to his roots in the performing arts, regardless of age. My time away from the stage has only intensified my desire to contribute to the world of theatre once more.
