I'm a 2024 graduate where I majored in KInesiology: Exercise Science at CSULB. I've been living with my disability since I was 19 years old, where I celebrate my anniversary every July 31.
If I were to illustrate a cartoon character that portrays me, I would say I am a turtle with a lot of patience to go about my life. I love to eat pasta and chocolate (disclaimer: not together). My favorite color is blue like the color of the water in the photo. Whenever I feel sad, I like to bother my two sisters and try to make them laugh with jokes. One thing that we love to do together is go to Disneyland. Contrary to the targeted age group demographic, Frozen is my favorite Disney movie because for one, the color scheme of Elsa's dress is blue, and two, the story between both sisters embodies the same love I have for my family and my sisters.
Prior to 2018, I had a lack of pop culture knowledge. I have fortunately spent so much time catching up on movies and TV shows I feel caught up! I finally watched Star Wars and now I know which Hogwarts house I'm in. Go Ravenclaw! Out of all the Star Wars characters, Darth Vader is ultimately superior and he's my favorite. Not only is he strong with his power, but he also needed a ventilator! The loud breathing is his ventilator! If I could use the Force I would easily overuse it to prank my sisters. My favorite TV series is Game of Thrones. ¡ Jiōrna! ¡Ñuha brōzi Charisma issa!
If you're shy, that's fine because I'm shy, too! This also grew as I was too afraid of meeting people who were going to make me feel ostracized because of my disability. When I was discharged from the hospital, I was intimidated to reach out to some old friends and approach people because I was torn between a balance of my natural charisma and coming off too strong. Now that I am learning how to detect genuine curiosity and concern I am opening my shell. If you would like to ask me questions, feel free to leave a message with the google form. Your messages will be accepted with love and understanding. Even if you think your questions are silly or too simple, don't be afraid to reach out because I can guarantee you that I will be excited to hear from you.
All the best,
Charisma Mangahas
