Coaches and Team Manager Check list:
Coaching children’s soccer with a community club like Channel United Primary Soccer (CUPS) is very rewarding and fun. It also comes with a few important legal requirements for anyone helping with our players
To make it easy, here’s what CUPS needs from all Coaches and Team Managers:
1. WWVP Card
You must hold a current Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) card.
Apply online through Service Tasmania: Apply for registration to work with vulnerable people
2. Safeguarding Children Training
All coaches, team managers, and committee members must complete the Safeguarding Children training. It takes about 15–20 minutes. Please email your certificate to: channelutd@gmail.com.
DECYP Safeguarding training link: Safeguarding training for volunteers and external service providers.
3. Register through Play Football
All coaches, team managers, and committee members must register with CUPS through Play Football. The process is similar to registering a player but select “Channel United Primary Soccer Coach and Volunteer Registration”.
Play Football Link: Registrations/Play Football.
4. Set up a communication chat group for your team.
You will need to set up a team communication chat group that includes all parents and guardians. Common apps for this include Messenger and WhatsApp.
You will also need to communicate the expectations for training days, game days, and team volunteer responsibilities, including occasional ground setup and pack-up, a once-a-season BBQ roster, and helping out at training and on game day.
For new coaches and or team managers here are some suggestions of information to share….
For training, players will need:
Shin guards
Long socks to cover shin guards
Soccer/football boots (optional but recommended)
Drink bottle and snacks
Clothing can be whatever is comfortable (most kids usually stay in their school uniforms).
Game day:
Times and locations will vary. I’ll post weekly game details here (early to midweek), but you can also check the roster via the DRIBL app or website. Note that early in the season, rosters may only be uploaded the week prior.
Game day reminders:
Arrive 30 minutes before the game starts for warm-up.
If your child is sick or running late, please let us know ASAP via WhatsApp.
Club uniform:
Player top (provided by club)
Black shorts
Shin guards (compulsory — no shin guards = no play)
Long black socks covering shin guards
Soccer/footy boots
