In 1990 the US fell into a recession once again . Although the recession itself only lasted eight months, it had a lasting impact on jobs. Unemployment numbers rose through 1992 increasing from 6.3 percent to 7.2 percent. Focusing on the economy and ensuring that he would fix it Clinton was able to end twelve years of Republican Presidents marking the beginning of a new era.
President Clinton's theme song Don’t Stop Thinking About Tomorrow by Fleetwood Mac was used to inspire positive change. Many of President Clinton's campaign advisers encouraged him to choose a more recent song, however the President refused, and rightfully so. The song “Don’t Stop” is about looking forward to the future rather than reminiscing on the past. In the lyrics it states “Don't stop, it'll soon be here, It'll be better than before. Yesterday's gone, yesterday's gone” . In the case of President Clinton he is referring to moving forward from the recession and towards a period of growth. The song became so iconic that the President had used this song for both his campaign in 1992 and his campaign in 1996 as well as numerous other political events. Its upbeat tempo and major key evoke positive emotions and the popularity of the song makes it a relatable song for all age groups.
