Old photographs of buildings that preceded Urban Renewal or survived through many demolitions demonstrate the variety of building types and architecture styles that existed in downtown Rockville until this period. The City's main street had evolved over time and the visual landscape reflected the changing tastes and uses of the built environment. Some of the memorable buildings had already been lost, and others that were preserved at the time have since been demolished. The face of downtown Rockville changed before and after Urban Renewal, but the Mid-City Urban Renewal Project was its most dramatic transformation covering an enormous area of land.
