This photograph gallery shows the streets and buildings of Rockville before the Mid-City Project. Note the variety of buildings in size and age, and the different kinds of businesses that operated here. They show the growth of the downtown for over a century in architectural styles and building usage. At the mid-century, barns reflecting Rockville's agricultural roots could be found next to streets overflowing with cars that reflected the automobile-oriented reality of the present. This visual record of small town Rockville's history was demolished with hopes of a robust modern mall and amenities for a growing City.
