Photojournalism

I was always self conscious of my skills as a photographer, as I had never been behind the lens of a camera. However, I began to get more comfortable with photography as I attended various school events, and I realized the creative and intricate ways a story could be told, using no words. So around the town I went, with a camera always around my neck, snapping pictures as I learned about my peers under a different context.

Seniors chasse away

I've always admired dance, so when our advisor suggested that we take pictures of the Spring Dance Concert, I immediately jumped up. Running through the stands and figuring out the best angles in order to get the perfect shot was an invigorating experience. In the snap shots I took, I managed to capture the beauty and intensity of these performances. Not only was this a great opportunity to take pictures, I also got to connect with the dance community at my school, a group I don't regularly speak to, as they shared the meaning and intention behind their pieces.

Celebrating the pep rally

The pep rally is always an exciting time at school, as students get ready for the Girls and Boys Basketball Homecoming games. The photos I took this day showed the excitement and anticipation in the air as both teams prepared for their upcoming matches that same night.

Photo Essay

Although I love the article I wrote in this photo essay, the photos I took have a special place in my heart. My favorite part of this story was capturing people in the personal, mundane moments that showcased their passions in life. I learned so much about various people who I had never spoken to by walking around school with a camera, building relationships I truly treasure. I hope that the joy each of these people had for their talent, and each other, shines through the screen.
