About

Structural integrity of engineering components define the life span of the component. At Computational fracture mechanics lab, we focus on understanding the behaviour of cracks in a material or component. It is not always possible to experimentally estimate the fracture toughness of material due to scarcity of material or due to surveillance of a running machine such as nuclear reactor. Hence, we focus on finite element analysis solution in combination with damage mechanics and configurational force based post processing of the results.
Our research is independent of material and can be used on any type of material including polymers, ceramics, biomaterials, glasses etc.
