What is Feminism?
What is Feminism?
Feminism is the belief in the equality for all. If you hold this belief, then you are a feminist. Further, it is a theory of how political, social, and economic inequality comes about and what to do about it.
Feminism seeks to end oppression, not only of women, but of all. Oppression of one is oppression of all.
What is NOT Feminism?
The mistaken perception that feminism and feminist theory seek to place women above men, thus flipping the world order. Equality means equality, not one above the other. Feminism is not about grabbing power. Rather, it’s about equal standing and opportunities.
The false belief that feminism is misandry, or hatred of men. This misconception stems from the restrictive binary thinking that, if you are for women, then you must be against men. This is a fallacy known as false dichotomy. By shining the light on the sexism that informs the existing inequality, feminists seek to liberate not only women, but also men from the limits of sexism.
