Vote for School Committee

We hope to help our community make an informed decision about the School Council candidates in the upcoming Nov. 7 municipal elections.

On Saturday, Oct. 15 family affinity groups hosted a School Committee Candidate forum on Zoom. You can watch the video here

Automated closed captioning is available through YouTube.

Candidates answered four predetermined questions and a fifth question in a written response.

1. How would you describe an effective school committee member? If elected, at the end of your 2-year term, how would you know you were successful?

2. What are your top 2 priorities in regards to our students who receive special education services?

3. What are your areas of concern regarding student achievement in CPSD?

4. From the Building Equity Bridges report, we know that educators of color are frequently asked to carry a heavier load and are not getting the mentoring and support they need. How would you change how ALL teachers (of any race) are evaluated, and how teachers of color are supported and compensated to help retain educators of color? What other policies would you enact or support in order to retain educators of color?

Read the candidates answer to Question 5: Given the high demand for immersion school programs (Mandarin, Spanish), where does that fall in your priority in the larger educational context, and if you would address it, how would you address this demand for more foreign language proficiency?
