Growing up in the United States, I always heard the phrase "Si se puede!" (Yes, we can). Although I knew the direct meaning of the phrase, I did not understand the symbolic meaning it had. All I understood as a little kid was that a man named Cesar Chavez coined the phrase. So, when he was name dropped in elementary school, I was very interested in him as he was the first influential hispanic I learnt about in school. Also, because as I eventually found out, he is the man who inspired many fellow Hispanics like myself to always strive forward and face our problem head on because si se puede!
