The Police Accountability Community (PAC) in CSO is one of the only grassroots organizations in the Los Angeles Area that fights against police brutality in East Los Angeles and Boyle Heights. Our current fight is to ban the Fort Apache logo, a logo that has a racist history at East Los Angeles Station. We encourage advocacy for overall community control of police and to give power to Chicanxs community in East Los Angeles to decide on police matters. The Police Accountability Committee supports civilian oversight commission in Los Angeles County with support from the check the sheriff coalition, national alliance against racist and political oppression by upholding community control of the police. A longtime member, Gabriel Quiroz attended the 7th regional organizing conference.
In 2016 there were 6 recorded killings in the East Los Angeles/Boyle Heights Area, CSO has fought alongside the families of those who lost their lives to police brutality to get justice.
We fight by organizing, tabling, outreach, directly disrupting events such as coffee with a cop, national night event and other police propaganda events. We have hosted an education event. We supported, canvassed, and advocated for the passing of Measure A, which includes the removal of sheriffs from the board of supervisors able to remove sheriffs, previously could not be done.
There is no justice, no peace, for the families affected by aggressive cops. They can't just try to wash the blood off their badges, they cannot try to have relations with the same community members they are killing and oppressing.
PAC honors Angelversaries (a death anniversary) of Chicanos being killed by police, in support of their families.
We demand justice for Jeremy Anthony Flores who was shot and killed in Boyle Heights by LAPD Hollenbeck Division cops on July 14, 2025. After killing him, LAPD called for backup and SWAT showed up. Instead of de-escalating, SWAT shot tear gas at Jeremy’s lifeless body. Then they removed his body from the van he was in, laid his body in the hot sun hours, all in front of Jeremy’s family. Not once did SWAT or LAPD answer any questions, as Jeremy’s family pleaded to know about his condition, nor did they call for medical aid. His murder is being investigated by CA Attorney General Rob Banta, under AB1506. This law requires the California Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate all incidents of an officer-involved shooting resulting in the death of an unarmed civilian.
Los Angeles, CA, – On Sunday May 25, over 35 protesters gathered in front of the East LA sheriff's department. May 25 marked the five-year anniversary of George Floyed’s murder by Minneapolis Police Department killer cop Derek Chauvin. Protesters demanded “No Derek Chauvin pardon!” and “Legalization for all.”
CSO is an affiliate of the National Alliance Against Racist & Political Repression. A longtime member, Gabriel Quiroz attended the Southern Regional Organizing Conference on December 10, 2024 in Jacksonville, Florida.
This organizing conference included a community panel on political repression, the struggle for community control of the police and tools to fight back.
The Fort Apache Logo previously banned in 2016 was reinstated in 2019 by Sheriff Alex Villanueva. This logo, depicted the film Fort Apache, where native Americans were tortured and killed was a byproduct of the historical battle between East L.A deputies and Anti-Vietnam War protesters during the Chicano Moratorium. The logo has the words low profile and "siempre una patada en los pantalones" -- Spanish for "always a kick in the pants." as stated by the LAist.
Centro CSO has fought tirelessly to ban the logo and have it removed from the East LA sheriff's station due to the racist and historically violent connotation tied to the logo.
