Centro CSO was originally founded in 1947 by Ed Royball and Tony Rios who we were pushed to fight for the rights of individuals following Bloody Christmas, advocating for voter registration and voting rights for Chicanos. There were 12 chapters of CSO in different counties throughout California such as Bakersfield, Delano, Porterville, San Jose, San Joaquin Valley, Santa Maria, etc.  CSO members organized in homes, teaching members in their communities how to become a citizen, registered people to vote, and push people to the polls to vote. In the 50s and 60s, CSO recruited, hired, and trained Cesar Chavez to organize, and helped coordinate the first Chicano Moratorium following the death of Ruben Salazar. In the 90s, CSO fought and advocated for residents to apply for state benefits, fought for the right to have a driver license for undocumented workers, protested Friday night DUI checkpoints and had a contract with the county and state for DUI classes. CSO established a credit Union, offering loans, a secure bank for the community, fundraiser bingo nights, citizenship classes, and English classes. 

In 2006, there were many "mega" marches, including the infamous Mayday march that CSO took part in. In 2009, CSO was refounded and began organizing, going door to door, and hosting in-house meetings. In 2003, CSO pushed for a new campaign, Escuela Si, Guerra No. This campaign brought attention to the issues of overcrowded schools, and military recruitment presence in Theordore Roosevelt High School, and James A. Garfield High School. The win of this campaign resulted in the establishment of the schools we know today, as Esteban Torres High School and Mendez High School and the removal of the military presence in high schools.  From then on, we have included articles and media that CSO has been a part of since 2015 to present.
