Robotics Outreach started during the Tower Takeover season where the team took advantage of the school leadership's weekly elementary rallies. The team decided to tag along to introduce robotics to the elementary kid in hopes to inspire young engineers and future VRC teams. During the rallies, we would introduce ourselves and what our robotics program at the high school has to offer. We would also expand how the robot works, what each parts' function was, and gave a quick sample of how the Takeover game was like.We even offered a few students to come on stage to learn how to drive and control the robot. To our surprise, many of the students were super excited to learn about our robot and program. Safe to say, they are extremely excited to start high school now.
When we saw an interest in the elementary kids with robotics, we decided to reach out to 7 of the 13 elementary schools that already didn't have a Firsts LEGO Robotics team. Since there were already 6 current lego robotics team, we tried to set up the remaining teams with VEX IQ. We were looking forward to come mentor the elementary team with how their equipment and competitions worked. So far we have gotten 2 school interested but because of online learning, many schools have pushed us off to help them start next year. Regardless, we are ready to help them start whenever. Our district tends to not care about our robotics program and it is starting to die out so we hope with all this promoting, we can keep the spirit of VEX alive in Central Unified. Our future plans will always be promoting STEM among the district.
