Chaperone Policy
We are committed to providing a safe and comfortable environment where the safety of staff and applicants is the main priority.
The policy can be requested from the Aeromedical Examiner and is displayed in the surgery.
All applicants for aeromedical certification are entitled to have a trained chaperone present, should they wish for any consultation, examination or assessment performed here.
If required and where possible, applicants are advised to request a chaperone at the time of booking an appointment in order that arrangements can be made and the appointment is not affected in any way. The healthcare professional may also require a chaperone to be present for certain consultations, examinations or assessments and the applicant shall be informed beforehand.
All staff are aware of and have received appropriate information in relation to this policy.
All trained chaperones understand their role and responsibilities and are competent to perform that role.
The role of the chaperone can be considered in any of the following areas:
The provision of emotional comfort and reassurance to the applicant
The provision of assistance in the examination or assessment
The protection of the healthcare professional
