Joseph A. Dixon Travel Award

Undergraduate students who are members of a Student Chapter within the Central Pennsylvania Local Section of the American Chemical Society are invited to apply for a Dixon Travel Award to attend and present at professional conferences.

One application form should be completed and submitted by the President of the Student Chapter. (One form per group per meeting.)  Awards of up to $750 per chapter per year may be awarded. Chapters may also request a travel stipend for an accompanying Student Chapter faculty advisor (up to $750 per year). 

If approved, the award is dispensed to the chapter following 1) submission of a report to the Executive Committee of the Central Pennsylvania Local Section and 2) submission of receipts for reimbursable expenses.

Report instructions:

1. Those listed on the application must attend and present as outlined in the application packet you provided. If changes are made, please notify us in writing of the nature of the changes.

2. The student affiliate president should submit a typed report which includes the following:

   • The name and location of the event.

   • The names of those who attended and/or presented.

   • What was learned and done during the event that contributed to the growth and professional development of the individuals who attended.

   • If possible: some photos of highlights from the event.

   • Receipts need to be submitted for travel, registration, lodging and/or food for the event which meet or exceed the grant amount. Note that you must not receive reimbursement from another source for those expenses for which you are requesting a reimbursement from the local ACS section.

   • The following attestation regarding other funding sources:  "This is a true and accurate accounting of expenses incurred to attend the conference and there are no expenses claimed as reimbursable which relate to personal or unallowable expenses. I have not received, nor will I receive, reimbursement from any other source(s) for the expenses claimed. In the event of overpayment or if payment is received from another source for any portion of the expenses claimed I assume responsibility for repaying the Central Pennsylvania local section of the ACS in full for those expenses."

   • Signature of the student affiliate president (digital signature is acceptable), include date.

3. The receipts and report outlined above should be submitted using the attached form. Receipts and the report should be sent to centralpaacs@gmail.com and the local section treasurer. Once the report and receipts are received and approved, he will work with you to process the reimbursement.
