Minecraft: Education Edition

All five schools in the SEFD cluster have received training and support to facilitate using Minecraft: Education Edition in the primary class to develop creative problem-solving and computational thinking skills.

For Year Three of the SEFD cluster, 4th, 5th and 6th Class in St. Kevin's G.N.S. have focused on using Minecraft: Education Edition to develop creative problem-solving and other 21st century skills across the Primary School Curriculum. To do this, they have used the brilliant 'Ireland's Future is Mine' lessons and resources, designed and facilitated by Microsoft Ireland's DreamSpace team and RTEjr. This accessible set of video lessons and lesson plans are child (and teacher!) friendly and explore real world issues in creative and fun ways. Collaboration and cooperation is central to Minecraft: Education Edition and regardless of device access, and through Ireland's Future is Mine pupils can work together to explore real-world issues and design better communities and a more sustainable world for the future. There are six lessons in the set, each exploring specific subjects, strands and skills associated with the Primary School Curriculum, in particular, Mathematics. They are also intrinsically linked to other subjects in the curriculum including SESE, SPHE and Literacy. The lesson plans are detailed below with links to each.
