Before the Bridal/Couple March, the MC will let the guests know about silent mode for mobile phones, photo taking, posting photos on social media, etc. The MC will also highlight the schedule and venue amenities.
Processional (Bridal/Couple March)
The bridesmaids and bride (or the couple together) enter the ceremony, accompanied by music.
Welcoming
A brief welcome to the guests by the MC/Celebrant.
Giving Away
Giving away of one party to the other, in one of below ways:
- Giving away of a party by father or other family member;
- Giving away of the parties by their family members;
- Giving away of the parties to each other.
Introduction
The MC speaks about the couple’s love story and commitment to each other.
Reading
Verses or poetry that is meaningful to the couple.
Monitum (mandatory)
This must be conducted by the Marriage Celebrant.
“I am duly authorised by law to solemnize marriages according to law. Before you are joined in marriage in my presence and in the presence of these witnesses, I am to remind you of the solemn and binding nature of the relationship into which you are now about to enter. Marriage, according to law in Australia, is the union of two people to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life.”
The Asking
The couple gets the opportunity to say “I do”.
Legal Vows (mandatory)
This must be conducted by the Marriage Celebrant.
“I call upon the persons here present to witness that I, A.B. (or C.D.), take thee, C.D. (or A.B.), to be my lawful wedded wife (or husband, or spouse).”
Additional Vows
Optional personal or poetic vows.
Ring exchange
A classic tradition in western culture.
The Pronouncing
The Celebrant announces the couple as “husband and wife or spouse, or partners in marriage”.
Signing the Register (mandatory)
This must be conducted by the Marriage Celebrant and requires the couple and 2 witnesses to sign the certificates together.
Optional Ritual
Symbolic rituals according to the couple’s choice.
Conclusion
Instruction about photo taking and other post-ceremony activities.
Blessing
A final blessing to the couple.
Presentation
“Introducing Mr and Mrs …”
Recessional
The couple leaves the ceremony area followed by the bridal party.
