On March 17, 2025, an Orientation-Training Seminar on DOST STARBOOKS was successfully held at the Extension Library, spearheaded by Mr. Michael Carlo Canlas Mariano, Supervising Science Research Specialist from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). The seminar was designed to introduce and promote STARBOOKS (Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk Stations) as a valuable tool for research and learning in both academic and community settings.
Mr. Mariano guided participants through an in-depth orientation on the STARBOOKS platform, showcasing its user-friendly interface, diverse content, and powerful potential to support education even in areas with limited or no internet access. Attendees were given hands-on demonstrations and learned how to maximize the platform’s features for classroom instruction, individual research, and community learning.
With its vast collection of digitized resources in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), livelihood, health, and more, DOST STARBOOKS is a game-changer for educators and learners. The platform empowers users with free and reliable information, helping bridge the digital divide especially in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas.
The seminar also highlighted how the integration of platforms like STARBOOKS aligns with the vision of building a more tech-savvy and knowledge-driven academic environment. Participants expressed appreciation for the opportunity to learn about such a transformative resource, recognizing its potential to enhance both teaching and learning outcomes.
The success of this orientation-training seminar reflects the strong partnership between DOST and educational institutions in promoting science and technology through inclusive access to information. The Extension Library remains committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen digital literacy and foster a culture of research and innovation.
