Our ESL department has purchased licenses for all faculty to create accounts in Ellii.com, a wonderful online source for ESL resources, ESL lesson plans, and ESL materials and teaching tools to lead your English language learners to greater success. H5P interactive activities for online classes

Alex Hosmer from the Office of Online Learning and Educational Technology will review the basics of using H5P to create dynamic interactive activities for your online classes. Online instructors must first request a license to use H5P. After confirming that an instructor is teaching or developing an online class, a license request may take up to 48 hours to process.

Enhancing the Onboarding Experience for ESL Students

This presentation explores the onboarding journey of ESL students in our noncredit courses. The goal is to identify challenges faced by ESL students during onboarding and to brainstorm actionable recommendations for enhancing their experience and engagement. Join us to develop practical recommendations aimed at improving our ESL students’ overall experience and success.

Structured Literacy in ESL Literacy classes

Clare will describe Structured Literacy, answer your questions, and address topics such as the definition and history of the term Structured Literacy (SL), phonemic awareness, 6 syllable-spelling patterns, why SL matters and why got more media attention during and after the pandemic, SL compared to other approaches to literacy, such as Phonics, Whole Language, and ESL Literacy textbooks, definitions of Literacy in ESL, and applying SL in Adult Literacy and ESL Literacy classes Clare has training and certification in Structured Literacy and has used it since 2016 as a dyslexia therapist for children. her certification is Structured Literacy Dyslexia Specialist (C-SLDS), certified by the Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI).
