Our Mandate
The Department of Education (DepEd) in the Philippines has a rich history dating back to the Education Decree of 1863. Today, it operates under the mandate of Republic Act 9155, the Governance of Basic Education Act of 2001. DepEd is responsible for formulating and implementing policies, plans, and programs for formal and non-formal basic education. It serves as the supervisory body for all public and private elementary and secondary schools, ensuring equitable access to quality education for every Filipino learner.
