Khan Academy is where we the build skills necessary to solve the complex problems that we tackle in 3 Act Math and my direct-instruction modules. It is a free platform that offers video instruction, references, guided practice and test taking, and provides instant feedback and solutions to problems as needed. In order to demonstrate mastery, students must complete the assigned exercises with a 75% or higher, and tests with a score of 80% or higher. Students can reattempt exercises and tests at any time, and Khan Academy will automatically generate new problems. Students are highly encouraged to work problems out on paper, both to track their own thought-processes and to account for any minor calculation errors that may lead to frustration.
As a teacher, I can manage assignments online and work one-on-one with students studying various units. I can also see where a student is making repeated mistakes, or struggling with a particular concept, and work with that student to close any learning gaps.
