What is a school counselor?

School counselors create comprehensive school counseling programs that focus on student outcomes, teach student competencies and are delivered with identified professional competencies. The Counseling & Career Center at CHS provides support services for the entire school community.

CHS counselors assist students with their academic, social, and personal needs by monitoring student progress to ensure students meet graduation requirements. This includes direct student services, individual student planning, responsive services, and indirect student services. They refer students, when appropriate, to other services in the DCSD such as special education, psychological services, social services, home-bound instruction, etc. when necessary.
