Course Advisement
With so many options in high school, we know selecting classes can be overwhelming. This page is an accumulation of resources we have found to be helpful for students when selecting classes and answers to questions we anticipate you may have. You are not alone in this process. Work with your school counselor to make sure you are staying on track for meeting your academic and career goals.
ADVISEMENT SCHEDULE FOR THE 24-25 SY
November 9th, 2023 @ 6:00 PM- Rising 9th Grade Parent Night in the CHS auditorium. See the recording of the presentation below.
January 11th, 2024- Current 11th Grade Parent Advisement Night at 5:30 pm in the CHS auditorium. See presentation below.
Current 9th and 10th grade Parent Advisement Night at 6:45 pm in the auditorium. See presentation below
Spanish Speaking Parent Advisement Night at 5:30 pm in the multipurpose room.
January 16th-February 2nd, 2024- Counselors will conduct classroom advisement lessons in all 9th-11th grade English classes to help students select courses for next year.
February 1st, 2024- Dual Enrollment Interest Meeting at 6:00 PM in the CHS auditorium.
February 8th, 2024- Make-up session during Bulldog Time for students who were absent during their classroom advisement lesson.
February 15th-22nd, 2024- Students will receive a Course Verification Form with the classes they selected to review with their parents. Students have a week to make changes to their course requests and submit the Course Verification form.
March 2024- Counselors will be available for individual advisement appointments with current CHS students.

DCSD Promotion and Retention Policy
Students who enter the ninth grade in 2005–2006 and beyond are required to complete 360 hours (24 units) in order to meet the requirements for graduation. The requirements for promotion are as follows:
to the tenth grade: 90 hours (6 units), three (3) of which must be core courses† and three (3) elective courses
to the eleventh grade: 180 hours (12 units), six (6) of which must be core courses† and six (6) elective courses
to the twelfth grade: 270 hours (18 units), nine (9) core courses† and nine (9) elective courses
† core courses include English, mathematics, science, social studies, and world language
