Open to: Participants & ObserversAges: Ability Level: Participants should be AMEB Grades preliminary to Grade 2Teacher: Karina HollandsTime: 9:00 - 10:00amLocation: Demountable 2, Conservatorium 45 Mann Street GosfordEquipment required for Participants:About: Mini Strings is part of our Saturday Strings Program, a progressive strings program that leads string students through the ranks from Mini Strings, to Junior String Orchestra, to Senior String Orchestra and finally to the premier ensemble Central Coast Chamber Orchestra. Mini Strings is open to students up to the age of 10. Entry typically begins at Grade 1 to 2, depending on the instrument.

The Jazz Ensemble is a great opportunity for students on a variety of instruments to learn how to play jazz and contemporary music in a band. Students learn how to improvise, build their performance skills, acquire a thorough understanding of jazz harmony and theory, and perform jazz and contemporary repertoire. Students have the opportunity to perform for the Conservatorium at concerts and public performances throughout the year.

Genres covered include rock, pop music, blues and other contemporary styles of music. Students learn to interpret a lead sheet (melody line and chord changes), learn to improvise and experience performing as a group. The age range of students is from teenagers to students in their early twenties. At least 4 years instrumental experience is required.
