This project explores how social media impacts both society and my own personal life by using research, statistics, and a self-assessment. It reflects on the positive and negative effects of social media and forms an informed opinion based on what I learned.
I was honestly not surprised that I was not ranked in the top 5–10% for having a unhealthy relationship with social media because I’m not on my phone very often. I tend to limit my usage, which helps me stay more balanced and less affected by social media. I try to live every day to the fullest rather then live someone else's life to the fullest through a screen.
This statistic shows how social media usage varies by age group, with younger people spending the most time online, while older adults spend the least amount of hours. What I found interesting is how clearly usage decreases with age, showing that social media is much more central to life for younger generations. It highlights how different age groups use social media in very different ways and amounts.
Social media has greatly changed society by making communication faster, but it has also created issues like misinformation, comparison, and reduced mental health for some users. It influences how people interact, share information, and view themselves and others every day. Faster communication is not the best form of communication
I realized that I spend a lot of time on social media on certain days, and it can sometimes affect my mental well-being. Even though my usage is decreased to others my age, it made me think more about how much time I should actually be spending in the moment more, rather then on a device
