What are the 7 Competencies of Digital Literacy? 

• 1. Identity and Wellbeing - creating your personal image by protecting privacy and managing your security and data

  2. Discovery - Look into search strategies and be able to evaluate what you find 

  3. Evaluation - Analyzing data to determine if it is relevant and accurate

  4. Ethics - Online sources should ensure respect for rights and privacy

  5. Creativity and Scholarship - Creating original work or changing existing work into your own

  6. Communication and Collaboration - Working together creates skills that ensure ideas are shared and effective with teamwork 

  7. Curation - Selecting data and organizing it and choosing how to present this information 

Search Query

• The phrase we use to search for information digitally 

• Can be a single word or a phrase and can be specified by adding more specifics 

Natural Language Query

• Space for people to interact with data and other systems to retrieve answers 

• This allows for speedy results and allows technical knowledge from every tier rather than only experts 

Spider (as related to the World Wide Web)

• The software that scans the web (WWW) for content in search engines 

• It analyzes and stores data for fast results 

Digital Footprint

• The trial of data that a person leaves behind when you use the internet 

• Like posting on social media, shopping or even what you subscribe too

What are the 5 basic computer components?

• 7. 1. 1. 1. Motherboard - Circuit that connects everything

           2. CPU (Central Processing Unit) - "brain" that handles processing 

           3. RAM (Random Access Memory) - short term memory

           4. Storage (Hard Drives/SSD) - long-term memory 

           5. Power Supply - Electricity from an outlet to a computer for power

What is a file as it relates to computers?

• Collection of information stored in computers 

• Used for storing applications or images, etc. 

File Extension

• The suffix at the end of a file, the format and type of file in which the file opens as

• Ex. We use jpg. for CSIT 101 uploads on Brightspace 

Zip File

• File format that compresses multiple number of files into a single folder

• Allows for easier storage and faster access to files

Saas

• A method of software delivery, where it is accessed online rather than installed or bought

• This can be accessed from any device connected to the internet

Digital Bubble

• A personalized algorithm that is curated based on a users past internet behavior 

• Different servers track your data based on locating past history searches to create this bubble

Generative AI

• Artificial intelligence that creates content like photos, music, or text instead of just analyzing data

• This can produce new outputs based on patterns from data 

Prompt (as related to AI)

• The specific text or query inputted into AI to get a desired output 

• This can produce texts or images as requested 

What is the difference between the Internet and the WWW?

• The internet is infrastructure of networks that allows data to travel, while WWW is interlinked documents that are accessed over the internet using browsers 

• Internet connects devices, WWW uses the connection to view websites

• Software application that allows users to access the web

URL

• Unique addresses used to find specific resources on the internet like websites or documents 

• The "link" that directs you to a precise location
