Students who scored below a certain level on their MAPs test and have continued to show difficulty in reading, are eligible for Level III Reading and Math Support. We have two new Reading Interventionists (Jana Cook and Madison Surratt) and are working with support staff in each grade level to administer math interventions.
We will begin seeing students who were identified last year immediately. Most of our groups run at minimum 3 days a week for 30 minutes. We work very intensively on the reading skills that students are lacking in an effort to get them scoring on grade level in reading and math as soon as possible. Think of it as reading and math boot camp!
Things to do at home. Research has proven that the more students are exposed to reading and texts at home, the better they will perform overall in school. Please read with your child daily.
I am planning to have some Parent Workshops soon. Be looking for an invitation. This will be an opportunity for you to come in and see what we are doing in reading and math groups. I will also be putting together packets and kits for you to take with you to work on with your children at home. So be watching for information about this opportunity!
