My Hats: I am the MTSS Coordinator for CCA. I am the Literacy Specialist & Coach for CCA. I am the Reading Teacher for CCA. Finally, my most favorite "hat" is Head of the Car Line!
If you receive a letter about MTSS signed by me it means that your child's teacher has an academic, behavioral, or other concern about their student. They refer him/her to the team and we support the teacher in problem solving ways to help. These are called interventions. The team tracks the progress of the intervention to see if it is helping. If it isn't, we will try something else. You may eventually be invited to meet with the team to be a part off this problem solving process.
Please feel free to contact me ANYTIME with questions or concerns about your child. I can help with interventions, questions about education and medical diagnosis, helping to get a 504 plan or an IEP if students show a need and qualify, or even help with behavior concerns. All of this is now done through the MTSS team and we are very happy to help your children.
I am also starting to pull students for reading groups. If a student scored below a certain level on their MAPs test and have continued to show difficulty in reading, I am most likely picking them up for reading groups. Most of my groups run 4 days a week for 30 minutes. We work very intensely on the reading skills my students are lacking in an effort to get them reading and comprehending on grade level as soon as possible.
BOLO: Be on the lookout! I will be sending letters home to all of my reading students in the next two weeks to inform you of what we are working on. I am also trying to plan some Parent Reading Workshops which will be a great opportunity for you to come see what we are doing and get some things to take home with you so you can support your child's reading at home!
