On behalf of the administration, faculty, staff, and students of California Baptist University I would like to welcome you to the Doctor of Social Work program. Congratulations on your decision to engage in doctoral education and I am grateful that CBU will be part of your journey. Together we will engage with communities to develop innovative strategies to address some of our world's most pressing social problems. I am grateful to have the opportunity to walk along side you as you live your purpose!
The mission of California Baptist University’s Doctor of Social Work Program is to develop advanced social work practitioners, leaders and world changers who live their purpose through the integration and application of social work values, knowledge, and skills, to engage communities and develop innovative strategies to address our world’s most pressing social problems.
The DSW Program strives to develop doctoral-level social workers who will advance innovative systemic changes to enhance human well-being while displaying executive leadership, content mastery, scholarship, integrity, and ethics that will distinguish them in the workplace and the world. The DSW Program is committed to pursuing Christ-centered justice by equipping graduates to live their purpose and glorify God through community-based social action both locally and globally.
1: Engage in systematic inquiry to advance the evidence base in social work practice
2: Use and critically evaluate advanced-level evidence-based practices and their application to marginalized populations
3: Develop and disseminate practice-relevant knowledge in practice, research, and academic settings
4: Demonstrate leadership in social work practice and education with integrity and ethics
5: Develop and maintain substantive expertise in one or more areas of social work practice
6: Apply Biblical values when developing solutions to complex problems
Professional social workers hold to a set of specific values and ethical standards. As you enter the program, and advance in the profession, it is imperative that you familiarize yourself with the social work values and ethics. Take some time to review the code established by the National Association of Social Workers. You will spend much more time reviewing this information in your courses over the next 2 years.
