🔹 Overview

This week builds on our exploration of cognitive distortions by focusing on mind reading and personalization—two thinking patterns that strongly influence how we interpret others’ actions and intentions in the workplace. While last week focused on predicting negative outcomes, this week turns attention to how assumptions about other people can shape our reactions, emotions, and workplace relationships.

Mind reading involves assuming we know what others are thinking without clear evidence, while personalization leads us to interpret events as being about us, even when they may not be. Together, these distortions can contribute to misunderstandings, unnecessary stress, and strained communication.

Throughout the week, you will learn to recognize when these patterns are influencing your thinking and practice strategies to pause, check the facts, and consider alternative explanations. By building awareness and flexibility in your thinking, you can respond more thoughtfully and maintain healthier, more productive workplace interactions.

You will examine how the language you use about yourself and others influences confidence, motivation, and performance—and learn strategies to replace harsh self-judgments with more constructive and compassionate thinking.
