IDNYC is a card for all New Yorkers, from all backgrounds, and from all five boroughs. Your immigration status does not matter. The free, municipal identification card for New York City residents, ages 10 and up, provides access to a wide variety of services and programs offered by the City. IDNYC cardholders enjoy benefits and discounts offered by businesses and cultural institutions across the five boroughs.
This is also accepted as a form of identification for the BJI Staff OCA Secure Pass
You can schedule an appointment through IDNYC's Online Portal to apply for an IDNYC in person at an IDNYC Enrollment Center or an IDNYC Pop-Up Enrollment Center. During your appointment, you will fill out an application and present proof of identity and New York City residency. Many types of documents are accepted, all of which are listed on the Document Calculator. After you submit your application and if your application is approved your card will be sent to you in the mail.
The IDNYC card is free for all New Yorkers. For cardholders 16 and older, cards are valid for five years from the date the application was approved. For cardholders under the age of 16, cards are valid for two years from the date the application was approved. IDNYC Middle School cards, issued to students at designated DOE middle schools, expire on the student's graduation date. The application process is accessible to people with limited English proficiency and people with disabilities. The application materials and Benefits Guide are available in multiple languages.

PAYING FINES FOR PARTICIPANTS
BJI can pay mandatory surcharge/fees for young adults who were aged <25 (age 24 or under) and has successfully expanded eligibility so that we can pay any amount of court surcharge, fee, and/or fine.
Mandatory surcharge/fees can have negative long-term consequences that can impact one’s financial future and often elongate the length of a low-level case.
Restitution is not included.
Clinicians must document instances of the Program Supplies program in Salesforce.
Contact ATI Clinical Director or SRP Clinical Coordinators for assistance.
ELIGIBILITY
Under the age of 25 at the time of the arrest
Involved in BJI programming (can be an intake or voluntary services)
No restriction around final disposition.
DIRECT MESSAGING & MEDIA CONSENT
BJI has launched social media accounts as a means of increasing BJI visibility for both participants and stakeholders. We can share important information about the courts as well as provide new mediums for communicating with participants.
There will be two branches of social media
The traditional use of social media as a means of highlighting community events, share essential information, & serve as an online resource in New York City.
The second branch is to utilize the direct messaging functions of Facebook and Instagram as backup options for communication and outreach with BJI participants. This is especially beneficial with participants who do not have reliable access to a phone but can access WiFi and have steady social media accounts.
Note that social media communication with participants is expected to be used as a bridge to re-connecting with typical services.
The introduction to this last resort means of communication is best established at the point of entrance into the program or IE.
Participants may need to reach out to BJI first. Our ability to initiate messaging is limited due to us having a business account
If a participant cannot communicate by other means, the clinician can be added to the Facebook page as an admin (this requires a personal Facebook page) to respond to message directly.
These situations will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
CONSENT
Best practice is to obtain consent with your participant at an initial engagement point to use social media as a means of outreach.
At the point of initial engagement on either the Facebook or Instagram accounts, a message requesting consent for the continued use of these platforms for communication will be sent to the participant. The participant can then accept or decline the receipt of future communications over Facebook or Instagram.
Do you give the Brooklyn Justice Initiatives and its representatives consent to use social media and other online means to contact you?
BJI staff must have participants complete a BJI APPEARANCE CONSENT & RELEASE FORM for all photographed events involving participants.
