Adopt A Storm Drain

Storm drains on city streets drain straight into the Bay. If they transported only stormwater (like they’re meant to), this wouldn’t be a problem. However, pollutants such as chemicals, trash, pet feces and even yard waste (like grass clippings and leaf litter) are easily flushed into drains by stormwater runoff. The Adopt-a-Drain program seeks individuals who want to help keep pollutants out of the Bay and are willing to do just that. Through this program, individuals accept responsibility for the health of the Bay by stopping water pollution while it’s still on land.

Each week, participants will be prompted to check their adopted storm drains and respond after they’ve been cleared. This will happen during "leaf fall" season in autumn and "snow melt" season in the spring. Help keep the storm drains clear of trash, yard waste, ice, snow, and other debris!
