In October 2019, two MCHS AmeriCorps members began serving through Ashland City Hall as volunteer coordinators to help build capacity for Green Infrastructure, as well as to promote community resilience and mitigate the effects of increased storm events in the area.
Coal Gass and Aidan Reilly are Marshfield Clinic Health System AmeriCorps Volunteer Wisconsin members serving the City of Ashland as volunteer coordinators. Our goal is to develop a foundation for Green Infrastructure initiatives by 1) educating the community on the issues of inflow/infiltration and water quality/quantity hazards, as well as on actions citizens can take to help, and 2) implementing green infrastructure projects to help mitigate the impacts of large storm and wet weather events on water infrastructure in the city. With these efforts, we hope to raise public awareness of the importance of water conservation and promote longterm citizen volunteerism of time, energy and resources.
These initiatives will provide a base of public knowledge for aid in discussion and implementation of green infrastructure projects. Project implementation may begin at the small scale (such as rain barrels and storm drain management), and work toward changes at the community level (such as rain gardens, green roofs, and chronic lifestyle changes).

Join AmeriCorps and you can mentor and tutor kids, rebuild a community after disaster, help veterans, or work with local communities to alleviate poverty.
