By promoting water-conservation habits and advocating for the implementation of the best water management practices, green infrastructure initiatives help to decrease stress on the sanitary sewer system. Green Infrastructure practices more effectively “stop the drop” and “slow the flow” of water in the most impervious areas of the city, as well as those known for their I&I contributions. This removes much of the extra water from the system, decreasing the likelihood of breakages or overflows.
Sustainable habits and community engagement also play a role in the health of the water and everyone living around the Chequamegon Bay. By acting in ways that benefit the environment around us, we all benefit as well -- from less litter and pollution on the ground, to more aesthetic and appealing surroundings, more green space and fresher air, better social sense and mental health, and local economic encouragement.
