Assignment 1 Individual : Feasibility Study
Project information explains the entirety of each assignment or task given either individually or in groups. Assignment 1 is an individual task titled Feasibility Study. The place or location chosen to be studied in more depth is Chemor, Perak. In the feasibility study there are nine contents namely Executive Summary, Site Analysis and Selection, Architectural and Engineering Design and Cost Estimates, Building and Zoning Regulations, Construction Schedule and Phasing Plan, Project Budget and Financial Analysis, Environmental and Sustainability Considerations, Potential Risk and Challenges and finally is Recommendations and Conclusion.
Starting with an executive summary that explains Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad in general and also Transport Oriented Development (TOD). It is necessary to know about the importance of TOD before choosing a location. TOD is not only of interest to the local population, but it is also important to guarantee the well-being of the surrounding nature. Chemor is a suitable area to build a railway station due to a number of factors, including its proximity to housing and schools as well as the growing population from year to year. Drawings for architectural and engineering design are also included in the feasibility study. The design drawing must have Green Building elements that are appropriate to be applied to the railway station building. In addition, the latest technology, which is IBS, or better known as Industrialized Building System (IBS), is also applied. Cost estimates are detailed into three parts: cost for site work, cost for labor, and cost for risk.
The building and zoning regulations involved are the Local Authorities (PBT) Act and the Railway Act of 1991. Because the location chosen is located in Perak, the Local Authorities Street, Drainage, and Building Act 1974 is used. The construction schedule is an estimate of the days and time taken for construction work at the railway station. In the Phasing Plan, the Prevention through Design (PtD) principle is being ingrained in the Guidelines for Occupational Safety and Health in the Construction Industry (Management). In the project budget, there are three parts: Budget development, Budget modeling, and Financial Analysis. For Environmental and Sustainability Considerations, Chemor is built in an open area surrounded by trees. In addition, the construction of train stations produces less air pollution because the construction method used is the Industrialized Building System (IBS) method. Among the potential risks and challenges that may occur during the construction of the railway station are that the surrounding environment becomes dirty when it rains heavily, IBS panel installation work must be stopped during continuous heavy rain, and there is a lack of expert energy in the installation of IBS.
Assignment 2 Individual : Innovation and Technology in Railway Station Building
Assignment 2 is done individually and is titled Innovation and Technology in Railway Station Building. Among the content involved are Introduction, Green Station Design, Innovation Construction Material, Technology in Accessibility for OKU in Station Building, and Conclusion and Analysis.
The introduction begins with the meaning of the words “Innovation” and “Technology” in the Cambridge Dictionary. In addition, innovation and technology were used in the railway station in Chemor, Perak. Among them are Green Building Design, Construction materials, and ramps for disabled people. For the Green Station Design, the Balanced Ventilation System was chosen because the facilities ensure good distribution of fresh air by placing supply and exhaust vents in appropriate places. The correct way of installation is also specified according to step-by-step instructions, appropriate equipment, and guidelines that need to be followed, namely Malaysia Standard (MS1525:2007), as well as the shortcomings and advantages found in the technology.
The innovative construction material involved in Chemor railway station is Castellated Beam. This material is an innovation beam designed and developed as structural channels to increase the beam's depth and strength without adding additional material or weight. The installation procedure follows the order stated, the tools and equipment involved during the installation, the method statement template, as well as the advantages and disadvantages found in the castellated beam.
Ramps were selected as a technology for accessibility for the disabled in the Station Building. This is because ramps are an important element in making it easier for people with disabilities, whether they are visually impaired or those who use wheelchairs, to walk. The correct procedure is stated according to the guidelines that are followed, the tools and equipment involved, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of using the ramp. The guidelines followed are MS1184:2014. The content of the guidelines contains the maximum slope and length of ramps.
Case Study Individual : Building Technology in Railway Station
A case study is a task done individually titled Building Technology in a Railway Station. A case study is the result of a student's findings or study of the Kluang Railway Station building, and through the results of the findings, the case study can be done after the completion of the industrial visit. The industrial visit was organized by the students of the Honors Building Construction Technology Bachelor Program and was conducted on May 23, 2023, Tuesday. All the information obtained was obtained through interviews between students and YTL Corporation Berhad during the visit. The information given helps students produce a good and complete case study.
Among the contents contained in the case study are an Introduction, Project Information, Method of Construction, Building Spec including Material Used, Operational System of Railway Station Building and Conclusion focus on Benefit for Public and Effect of Railway Industry.
Students are assigned to find information about the old and new train stations. Ipoh Railway Station is an old railway station, while Kluang Railway Station is a new railway station. Introduction is knowledge about trains, such as their importance, types, and so on. Next is Project Information, which explains the building theme for Ipoh train station and Kluang train station. In addition, Method of Construction explains the construction methods involved. Ipoh Railway Station uses the traditional method of cast-in-situ, while Kluang Railway Station uses construction methods such as Precast-Beam System (IBS), Hollow Pot Slab, and cast-in-situ. In addition, the Building Spec including Material Used found at Ipoh Railway Station is Castellated Beam Roofing. For Kluang Railway Station, Hollow Block, Low-Carbon Cement and Led Light Fitting are used. The description of information about building spec and materials used has been further detailed for easy understanding. Next is the Operational System of Railway Station Building. For both stations, Ipoh and Kluang use the same operating system, which is the Electrified Double Track System.
