SERVER RULES.
ALL RULES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE.
These rules are to foster and protect the community. If you feel a rule or a ruling made on it is unfair, please open a ticket to discuss with staff; little or big problems. We *will always* hear you out.
We do not use a three-strike system in CCRA. The nature of a warning received is entirely depending on your behavior & history; we will kick those who are acting harmfully in and towards our community. This doesn’t mean we’ll slam the banhammer down for a slip up or misunderstanding. Bad faith actors and instigators are never so slick as they think they are.
Even the Vikings, especially the Vikings, followed the rules of hospitality.
GENERAL / MISC.
1.) You must be 18+ or over to join this RP. This is referencing your body’s physiological age. When we find out you were lying about your age, if you were, you will be kicked. You will not be welcome to come back.
2.) Bigotry and discrimination has no place here in CCRA. Racism, ableism (physical AND mental), sexism, queerphobia, *any* kind of negative behavior aimed directly or indirectly at someone based on how they’re different from you. We recognize internalized -isms and dearth of awareness on this-or-that issue is something all of us struggle with, so there is leniency; you will be informed of inappropriate behavior and so long as it doesn’t happen a second time, all is well.
3.) CCRA is a horror RPG, an intense and often graphic one. Cosmic horror, psychological horror*, thriller, and gore is prevalent throughout. Use spoiler warnings and spoiler brackets ( || text || ): do not spoiler the content warning itself. You are expected to be responsible with your own mental health in regards to CCRA’s contents; there’s a difference between “this was untagged and I got hurt” or “I didn’t expect this would hurt” versus “I knew this would hurt but looked anyways”. These content warnings are not what our story is about. It is what our story contains.
—- PREVALENT CONTENT WARNINGS: Graphic violence, death, body horror, psychological horror, cosmic horror, surrealism, unreality (hallucinations/delusions, prose which evokes it, literal unreality, ARG elements), unhealthy & abusive relationships, gore, cannibalism, religious themes and imagery (fictional), child endangerment & fear, adult fear.
Yes, we are bordering on grimdark territory, as CCRA is a tragedy; but it is not entirely without hope or joy. The goal of weathering the dark is those sunlight moments, which we are just as much in charge of as the heartbreak.
*Mental illness itself is not presented as horror.
CONDUCT & BEHAVIOR.
1.) If a member of our server is harassing you either in server or out of server, be that different groups or through dms, inform staff. We will swiftly take action. We do not want such people in our community.
2.) We’re all adults, so raunchy jokes aren’t illegal- HOWEVER. Do not be explicit in our server; save that for elsewhere. Raunchy jokes nor anything that could be construed as propositioning may be made towards another member of the server, and especially not in the context of the cats. Do not make nsfw jokes about or with the cats. Whatever you do in anthro-or-human world is none of our concern, but when it comes to the feral cats… don’t. This is not to say cats can’t reference reproduction / mating, as that’s kinda a staple part of being an animal, but it means they can’t make explicit innuendos or comments / flirtations aka act or talk raunchy. Cat verbal chastity.
3.) Do not come into this server just to vent. Serious topics and discussions crop up, and are perfectly permitted, but constantly venting in chat is not appropriate here.
4.) Channels are to stay on topic. Messages not relevant to the channel’s topic, especially in event roleplay channels, will be deleted.
5.) Art theft and use of AI is illegal in these waters. No exceptions.
6.) We can only work with what we are given. Lovely writers of the Cauldron, please come to us about ideas you want to execute, plots you have in mind for your characters, what direction you want to take your characters in, etc. Involve yourself in things, and speak up! We try to involve everyone and have events aplenty, but we can’t make you participate. The more you talk to stuff and roleplay with your fellow players, the more involved in our world you get! CCRA runs events in different formats, but the two main ones are Mass and Personal events. Mass events affect the whole Cauldron or a large group, with storyweavers (event runners) taking a more environmental role and sending plot point responses for everyone to use as buoys to steer their plot ships. Personal events are small groups with more direct storyweaver interaction, and may or may not be part of a series of Personal type events.
7.) Do not get an attitude with staff for doing their jobs. Notably, when it comes to being denied something or told you’ll need to edit an aspect of your character. By joining CCRA, you are choosing to engage in the world that the owners have built, a world that shapes our story. There is a box to work within, a very fancy box that is also quite large.
ROLEPLAY RULES.
ALL RULES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE.
Cauldron Clans: Ragnarök is a literate roleplay group with a certain standard of effort given & creative consideration. Plot arcs and beats, character development, and the other techniques of creative writing are expected & utilized here within the bounds of an improvisational writing group of 40+ people.
We don’t have restrictions on anyone’s technical skill level— even if it’s “this is my first ever time creatively writing what is a heroes journey”. All we’re concerned with is if you’re putting in an effort, respecting your fellow writers & their own effort, learning something, and having fun in practicing your craft.
CHARACTERS.
1.) Upon joining CCRA, you have seven (7) active character slots. You can acquire an additional three (3) slots from the Cauldron Shop, and an additional one (1) from Boosting the server.
—- 1a.) You may have a max of four cats in one Clan at a time.
—- 2a.) You may have 3 courtier / high ranking cats at a time. Ideally, they should be different ranks in different Clans. You cannot repeat ranks in the same Clan. If you already have a courtier, your priority is lower than people who don’t have one.
—- 3a.) Specialty ranks don’t count for high rank slots; you can have one (1) specialty rank per Clan.
2.) Outsiders (cats not of a Clan), Beyonders (from beyond the Cauldron Mounts), cursed, and blessed cats cannot be made without a “pass” for it. Cats with extreme and/or distinct physical variations from the standard cat look require a “Unique Looks” token; examples are two-faced cats, twin tails, polycoria, wild cat hybrids, chimerism, vitiligo, albinism, etc. Any attempts to get around this will be shot down. Polydactylism and heterochromia are freebies.
3.) You are expected to create a character who fits into the world, and doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb. Attempts to circumvent or bend world setting will not get anywhere.
4.) Follow the rules described in the character guidelines found here. [LINK]
TECHNICAL RP.
1.) At minimum, a response should be three (3) sentences long, including dialogue.
2.) Give your writing partner something to work with every response; it’s not cool to leave your writing partner struggling to figure out how to continue. Though your character is of course your own focus, they are not the only one involved in or pushing the plot forwards.
3) ALWAYS PUT CONTENT WARNINGS IN BOLD AT THE TOP OF A RESPONSE. Do not spoiler what the content warnings are, spoiler the content itself.
4.) In group roleplays, always put a bolded header / title at the top of your response containing at least character name, pronouns, clan, and rank. Including a small description, stylizing it while keeping it readable, etc and other helpful alterations are acceptable.
5.) When moving channels, place a link to the original thread in the starter of the new thread, and vice verse leave a link to the new location’s starter to close the thread. Moving threads / forum posts should be done as sparingly as possible, and only done when changing from one location area to another (ex: Wealdan Caverns -> Glades).
GENERAL RP.
1.) Just because it is being written, does not mean it is condoned. However, you are expected to have tact, be able to read the room, and be responsible handling the topic.
2.) The characters actions & opinions do not and should not reflect on personal relationships between the writers.
3.) People are not obligated to interact with your characters, for whatever personal whim or reason that isn’t discriminatory.
4.) Keep the world setting and the fact that these are domestic cats in mind. Feel free to roll with creating phrases, vocabulary, “yes, and”-ing based on canon information, inventing folktales & superstitions, etc. If something isn’t canon compliant, we’ll let you know with no problem for it having happened. The Dragon is persnickety, yes, but loves seeing how ya’ll take things and run with it (and is very grateful + delighted that you do so regardless of that persnicketiness). The second portion of this rule refers to writing the cats as cats; generally keeping in mind cat behaviors, biology, senses, etc when playing your character and plotting.
5.) CCRA has fluid time. The canon timeline will always march forwards, but you can roleplay at any prior time point. Be mindful that any major forward running retcons will need staff deliberation. We generally follow the change of seasons irl.
6.) Planning and executing major events as players is allowed, even encouraged, but staff must be kept in the loop. This is for a variety of practical reasons, but also because we’ll want to connect it with or slot it into those plot threads already woven or in the process of it.
7.) NPCs can be written whenever! They just can’t be played as if they were player characters.
ROLEPLAY PROHIBITIONS.
1.) No ERP.
2.) No mentor x apprentice romantic relationships, not even in backstory, not even when the apprentice has graduated.
3.) No characters who exist just to suffer and are only written suffering & miserable.
CHARACTER DEATH & RETIREMENT.
1.) When your character dies, they become unplayable aside from special events or when needed to function as an NPC. You retain all rights and control over your character, but they are functionally an NPC. They can become an *einherjar* in Leafhome, the Hall of Honored Fallen OR become a wandering ghost in the Veil OR if they were an oathbreaking dishonorable, be dragged down to Below the Roots for Nidhöggr’s supper.
2.) Characters are not to be killed for lols or shock factor nor without planning. If you don’t want to play a character anymore, they’ll be retired as an NPC unless or until a story-suitable “walk off into the sunset” is ready (all the Clans need their Wisdoms, though). You can note them as being fodder for events when you let staff know of the retirement via ticket.
