Monday, 13 July 2026 - LCC Meeting 1,273
Our July meeting is upon us: Meeting 1,273, and this month Spain comes to us.
July is a month rich in saints closely associated with Spain: most notably St James the Apostle, patron of pilgrims and of the Camino, and St Ignatius of Loyola, soldier turned contemplative and founder of the Society of Jesus. We Catenians have a lot to learn from these great Saints. And so this month, Spain comes to us: a pilgrimage of the heart and the palate, here at the Challoner Hall.
Our chef for the evening is José, a Le Cordon Bleu graduate who has worked in some of London's most distinguished kitchens — among them Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, Seabird, and Oswald's. Originally from Burgos, a city that sits at the very heart of the Camino Francés, he brings authenticity as well as artistry to the table. He will prepare a traditional chicken paella, accompanied by Spanish wines.
¡Buen Camino!

Monday, 10 August 2026 - LCC Meeting 1,274
Our August meeting falls on the Feast of St Lawrence, Deacon and Martyr — one of the original seven deacons of Rome, and a man of honour and great humour, as we shall learn. A great saint for Catenians. Chef Ash joins us again for what promises to be a magnificent Côte de Bœuf night.
Monday, 14 September 2026 - LCC Meeting 1,275
Our September meeting falls on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. We will be joining the 6pm Mass at St James's, Spanish Place, where the parish holds a relic of the True Cross. Through the kind permission of Monsignor Philip Whitmore, there will be an opportunity for the veneration of — or a blessing with — the relic following Mass. This is a rare and precious privilege.
The Circle meeting will follow in the Refectory of St James's, with dinner nearby afterwards.
Sunday 20 September 2026 – President’s Sunday
10:30 AM Mass at Warick Street Church, Lunch at L’Escargot Restaurant.
This date carries a special resonance in our Circle's history. On 20 September 1941, in wartime London, the Circle's 21st Anniversary Dinner was held at the Russell Hotel — drawing 70 Brothers, including 52 visitors from as far afield as Manchester and Coventry. That our Brothers gathered in fellowship and faith while the city was scarred by war speaks volumes about the spirit of the Catenians. We may be fewer in number today, but we are no less dedicated and no less given to service. It is fitting, then, that we mark President's Sunday on this same date.
Saturday 3 October 2026 - Holy Mass and Fellowship for New Members and Visiting Gentlemen in Province 14
THE MASS & INVITATION
Province 14 are organising a Mass to be offered for the intentions of our new brothers and visiting gentlemen from across province. All in Province 14 are warmly welcome, this is an opportunity for the province to come together in prayer and fellowship. Our recently joined members and visiting gentlemen are at the heart of our intentions, and we hope to see them, their sponsors, friends, and guests from all across the province. St Etheldreda's is a richly fitting venue for the occasion: one of London's oldest and most beautiful Catholic churches, very much part of England's Catholic story, a story we have a part in telling.

OUR CELEBRANT
The Mass will be celebrated by Father Paul Kyne, Parish Priest of St Mary's, Blackheath, and Vocations Director for the Archdiocese of Southwark. Father Paul was himself a member of our brotherhood before answering a deeper call to service, and we are honoured that he returns to celebrate this Mass with us.
ST ETHELDREDA CHURH
St Etheldreda's is one of London's oldest and most beautiful Catholic churches, very much part of England's Catholic story. Built in the 1290s as the private chapel of the Bishops of Ely, it is one of only two buildings remaining in London from the reign of Edward I, and the oldest Catholic church in England still in regular use for worship.
Cittie of Yorke Pub
We will conclude the day with fellowship over lunch at nearby The Cittie of Yorke on High Holborn. A tavern has stood on this site since 1430, and though the present hall dates from a 1920s rebuilding, it remains one of London's most atmospheric historic pubs.

Pentecost Novena 2027
A suggestion came up to do a period of deeper prayer next year during the period between Ascension and Pentecost. This period is one of the oldest of all novenas, with Our Lord telling the apostles to remain in Jerusalem and await the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 1:4-5,8)
The apostles and Our Lady went to the upper room and devoted themselves with one accord to prayer for nine days, from the Ascension to Pentecost — and on the tenth day they were filled with the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:13-14; Acts 2:1-4).
We propose attending Mass together as a circle on the Feast of the Ascencion, Thursday, 6 May 2027, followed by a nine-day Zoom morning prayer gathering (15 min or so) before the start of the working day or people heading off on their commutes. More details to follow.
Matthew 25 Initiative
Taking inspiration from Our Lord’s words, “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me” (Matthew 25:40), London Charterhouse Circle seeks to undertake a small, practical act of charity.
The Matthew 25 Initiative, open to members and guests attending Circle Meetings, invites a voluntary contribution of £5, which will be used to purchase new socks and basic clothing items for those served by the Companions of Malta at the Wednesday Breakfast Club held in Challoner Hall.
Charterhouse also organises regular events such as our annual London Camino, a Lenten Church walk exploring 7 Catholic Churches in Central London (about 5 miles). We also organise local tours, to the Charterhouse in Farringdon, the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, and Bletchley Park.
Ladies Night - a cherished tradition within our Catenian association, for London Charterhouse Circle these are heartfelt occasions where we gather to honour and celebrate the extraordinary women who enrich our lives: our beloved wives, adored daughters, beloved nieces, treasured granddaughters, cherished sisters, esteemed mothers, and faithful friends. These convivial evenings are a testament to the deep appreciation and gratitude we hold for the remarkable women who stand by our side. As Circle brothers, we extend our warmest hospitality, creating a welcoming ambiance for our esteemed guests to share in fellowship and camaraderie. These dinners serve as a poignant expression of our respect and admiration for the invaluable role these women play in our lives, embodying the essence of love, support, and companionship.
Clergy Night - Once a year, we host an evening where the circle extends a cordial invitation to members of the clergy to join us for dinner as our esteemed guests. This occasion serves as a poignant opportunity to express our profound gratitude to priests and religious for their dedicated life of service.
Provincial Events - Each Catenian circle is part of a broader group of other circles; this broader group is referred to as a province. London Charterhouse Circle falls under the umbrella of Province 14, which encompasses nine other circles across North London and the surrounding areas. Members have the opportunity to visit other circles within the province and beyond, participating in provincial-level events such as golf tournaments, wine tasting dinners, pub quizzes, and the President’s Weekend.
Hearty group of Catenians and companions at the start of the 2024 London Camino 5-mile walk.
