Joseph House Cleveland
I coordinated a clothing drive at Cleveland State University and brought volunteers together to help with the organization and distribution of the clothes at Joseph House. The organization assists individuals in need by providing them with free clothing.
Steps to Independence
I paired with a participant with Down syndrome and guided them throughout the weekend activities, providing support and encouragement to help foster their independence. My role was to ensure they felt confident and empowered to navigate the events while offering assistance whenever needed.
Through the process of self-reflection, I gained a deeper understanding of my core strengths, such as my empathy, deep worldview, and unwavering self-belief. These qualities empower me to approach challenges with resilience and optimism, providing a strong foundation for my personal and professional growth.
I am highly self-aware, which allows me to effectively recognize areas where I can improve and take actionable steps toward growth. Identifying opportunities for improvement, such as building assertiveness and public speaking skills, has been particularly insightful.
Completing my OT program has significantly strengthened my professional demeanor and allowed me to build the skills needed to navigate challenges, including receiving feedback and managing interpersonal dynamics. I am embracing opportunities for growth with a mindset focused on continual improvement, which will serve me well as I progress in my career as an occupational therapist. I am confident that both my strengths and areas for growth will continue to evolve as I gain more experience and insight.
