Standard 7 - Assessment – The competent teacher understands and uses appropriate formative and summative assessments for determining student needs, monitoring student progress, measuring student growth, and evaluating student outcomes. The teacher makes decisions driven by data about curricular and instructional effectiveness and adjusts practices to meet the needs of each student.
Standard 7 Rationale
What I did: Instead of just making a pen and paper test for students to take, I instead made a test on a google form that would better help me collect and monitor my students data. This goes along perfectly with performance indicator 7O, which is "effectively uses appropriate technologies to conduct assessments, monitor performance, and assess student progress."
This test helps me identify what level of understanding my students have on this subject which I discuss in the test analysis section found below this rationale and below the test. It can be seen that I am using the results of this test to guide me towards bettering my students understanding, which is congruent with performance indicator 7J. Performance indicator 7J states, "uses assessment results to determine student performance levels, identify learning targets, select appropriate research-based instructional strategies, and implement instruction to enhance learning outcomes."
One of the main reasons why I chose to make this test a google form is due to the fact that all the student's results will be saved to my google drive that I can then reference in the future. These tests are easily turned into charts and graphs at a click of a button which makes analyzing data very simple. This is congruent with standard 7M which states, "maintains useful and accurate records of student work and performance."
