This strand encourages students to engage in imaginative and original thinking. Creativity includes:
Performing arts (theatre, music, dance)
Visual arts (photography, painting, design)
Creative writing or film
Building a website, coding a game, or developing a creative solution to a real problem
Activity is about physical well-being. This can mean competitive sports, outdoor challenges, or personal fitness goals.
Examples include:
Team sports
Hiking or rock climbing
Dance or martial arts
Personal health goals or training routines
Service is unpaid, voluntary engagement with the community. It emphasizes respect, dignity, and learning from others.
Examples include:
Tutoring or mentoring younger students
Organizing community drives or cleanups
Volunteering at local shelters, NGOs, or charities
Advocacy or awareness campaigns
A strong CAS project should:
Last at least one month
Involve collaboration with others
Require planning, action, and reflection
Be student-initiated
Relate to at least one CAS strand
Students must complete at least one CAS project during their IB Diploma Programme.
There are seven CAS learning outcomes that every student must demonstrate:
Identify strengths and develop areas for growth
Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken and new skills developed
Initiate and plan a CAS experience
Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
