For this project I will take a quiz that will determine if I am "addicted" to social media and if I am I will be informed of ways to fix this "addiction" so I can improve my own wellness. Also I will look deeper into how social media affects the world around
After taking the quiz the results claimed that I was "really" "ADDICTED" to social media, verbatim: "Oh dear....you really do seem ADDICTED to social media [Time To Log Off Social Media Addiction Quiz]. You NEED to get a grip on your social media habits! Scrolling through social media is your number one past time - you're never off the .gram, or TikTok, or Twitter or... (insert your favourite platform here).
My reflection is this is proportionally overblown. Not to sound arrogant but I don't have many followers on any social media site, don't carry many conversations and could easily quit if I wanted to. I don't because I communicate with people on there because I dont have their personal phone numbers. The quiz makes it seem as if I am in deathly urgent need of a cultur reset and frankly I just don't agree. Maybe I'm in denial maybe not but this is how I genuinely feel.
The most interesting social media statistic I found was the age gaps (pictured left) of the major social media apps. It was interesting seeing how compared to other apps people 65+ use Youtube and Facebook, and the you see the shift towards the younger people with Instagram, Tik Tok, and Twitter. Being in that demographic and living in today's world I can relate to these percentages fairly well.
In my opinion social media I think social media is impacting society's perception of reality. Whether that might be fake news, AI creations, or even clickbait advertising, I believe social media is largely responsible for how twisted people's perception of reality is, especially in America. Social Media can cause people to form opinions on controversial subjects. This can be a danger because a lot of information can be found on social media. But sometimes that is bad information or something completely made up which could allow people to form and spread misinformed or uneducated opinions across social media like a wildfire.
I learned very much about how social media has been embedded in our minds, personalities, and society itself, and the astonishing part is how fast it has done it. I learned about the positives and the negatives impacts social media can have and importantly I learned about the blueprint of social media, how it started and how much it has evolved and it has formed a better understanding of the anomaly that is social media.
