This winter, beginning November 14, 2019 through April 4, 2020, Carpinteria Community Church will, once again partner with Freedom Warming Center.
This is a season when the people in the church and community serve alongside one another, to show compassion & care to those less fortunate, in a tangible way. Homeless guests in Carpinteria appreciate a warm, dry and safe place to sleep during the rainy and cold season.
Typically, the Freedom Warming Center will notify CCC a day in advance, as to when the shelter will activate. This communication sets a variety of things into motion.
Folks who want to participate serving within this ministry are notified.
A meal menu is planned and prepared for the homeless guests.
Hillcrest Security is notified to “disarm” the auto-alarm system during this time frame.
FWC staff post signs around Carpinteria, to communicate; date & location of activation.
FWC staff arrive early to set up Parish Hall or the Scout House as a temporary shelter with sleeping mattresses.
Guest are not allowed on the church premises until 6:00 PM and must depart by 6:00 AM.
Guests are checked-in by FWC staff (through the side door, only).
A meal is served by volunteers and engaging conversations ensue.
FWC staff are watchful throughout the night and ensure safety for all guests.
FWC staff clean up, remove sleeping mats and leave premises until the next activation alert.
Thank you to those who have served and will join our efforts in this very tangible and needed ministry.
