The lessons I had in plan were related to communications, specifically to managing expectations through communication strategies and how to communicate effectively. I decided to use Articulate 360 to create the lesson “Managing Expectations” because it included more information than the second lesson “Communicating effectively”. For the second lesson, I only intended to include some key points and for that reason I decided to use Powtoon as a tool.
Articulate360 and its app Rise360 is a digital tool to develop online courses in a simple but professional way. The work is stored in the cloud and it is downloadable as a file like PDF or web (to be used offline). This allows the student the flexibility to study in different platforms and spaces. The tool is also easy to use as imitates the functionalities of a regular website. It allows you to add pages and blocks for quizzes, assessments, multimedia, text.
Powtoon is a tool to create short video presentations by adding different features: animation, live-action video, images, photos, backgrounds, music and animated graphics, voiceover and personal files. It is possible to download presentation as a video link or as a slideshow, and share it in multiple platforms like Youtube, Facebook, LinkedIn, email, etc.
To create the lessons on both tools, the focus was on what the learners –people working on recruitment- needed to cover: “How to manage expectations?” And “Communicating Effectively”. The first step was setting the learning objectives (Blooms Taxonomy) for the main course in Articulate360 and for the small lesson in Powtoon. Furthermore, two storyboards were elaborated to organise the information and elements of support (images, videos, etc.) for both tools. Finally, Rise360 was the only tool that included quizzes to evaluate the student, since Powtoon does not have that feature.
