Airport Taxis:

Carlisle Taxis renders its service to its customers moving them to various airports from Carlisle. Our regular services are available from Carlisle to Newcastle airport, Glasgow airport, Edinburgh airport, Manchester airport and Birmingham airport. Upon request from our clients we also provide services to Heathrow airport and Stanstead airport in UK.

Carlisle City Council Licensed Taxis:

All our taxis are licensed by Carlisle City Council. We provide only Hackney carriage services and do not have any Private taxis. All our taxi drivers have to undergo the DBS checks and health checks on regular basis as advised by the Carlisle City Council. All our taxis will have regular checks to ensure the safety of our customers. We are concerned about the safety of our customers and ensure regular checks are done without fail.

Hackney Carriage Drivers Licenses:

Hackney Carriage drivers are licensed by Carlisle City Council for your safety.

Once granted a licence, taxi drivers are issued with a badge showing their photograph, identity number and expiry date of the licence.

To get a licence a driver must first:

• Have held a full driving licence for at least 12 months
• Have their driving licence verified by the DVLA
• Have a "DVLA Group 2" medical examination
• Take a verbal test consisting of local knowledge, locations and routes, codes of practice and basic maths
• Attend a Disability Awareness course
• Pass a Driving Standards Agency taxi driving test.
• Get an enhanced DBS disclosure of convictions (Carlisle City Council will adhere to the Home Office Code of Practice)
• Fill in an application form and return with the appropriate fee to the Carlisle City Council.

Note: If the driver wishes to drive a wheelchair accessible taxi, they must also pass the wheelchair element of the taxi driving test.

Carlisle City Council sets the licence fees for licences, permits and registrations to cover administration, inspection and enforcement costs.

Taxis fares in Carlisle:

Both Saloon and a Black cab have the same fares to start with. However black cabs will charge 50P extra per passenger (5th, 6th, 7th and 8th passenger) as extra charges subject to the 5th passenger onwards are above 17 years of age. Carlisle City Council changed the tarriff rates from 9th of October 2017. You can find the revised fares below.
