Dining onboard a Princess cruise ship can be a joyful celebration in the truest sense as every dish is “designed for fresh” and crafted to please even the most discerning palates. From hand-tossed pizza to dazzling multi-course gourmet dinners, you will find enticing food and dining options throughout the day, as lovingly prepared as a home cooked meal.
When Princess says their food is designed for fresh, they truly mean it! Breads are fresh baked every day, pastries are made from scratch using the finest ingredients. Steaks are aged and hand cut onboard and ice cream is homemade every day.
Any allergies or dietary restrictions are well catered to aboard the Sun Princess and taken seriously. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are available in most dining venues and are usually marked with a symbol identifying them as such – though it’s always a good idea to remind your waitstaff of your dietary requirements when ordering. You can identify any food allergies you may have on the Princess Cruise App prior to boarding.
Besides the fine culinary tastes of their cuisine, the dinners are presented to you in elegant gourmet fashion. This can make dining a unique and memorable experience.
While we were not used to being so well served and pampered while dining (we were used to putting our own napkin on our lap and sprinkling our own food with pepper) we soon got used to the fine dining experience. However, what was really weird for us was getting up after our meal and walking out of the Main Dining Rooms without paying or even leaving a tip!
Would you prefer to dine on your balcony or while sitting on the top deck watching the sunset? You can by using OceanNow® using the Princess Cruises App. You can order your favorite foods and drinks on your phone, stateroom TV, or directly through a crew member, and it will be brought right to you - (with free delivery for those having the Plus or Premier package, and a one time fee of $15 for the standard fare cruisers). So sit back, relax, and enjoy the option of not having to stand in line or deal with crowds.

Just when we thought that Princess Cruises dining options couldn't get any better they improved it even more! Princess Cruises has reimagined dining at sea to be now more personalized. Now with the Princess MedallionClass experience they have introduced Dine My Way SM which will let you customize every aspect of your dining experience. Whether is is fitting in a formal dinner before a show or ordering food and drinks while you relax at poolside.
Introduced in May of 2021, Dine My Way is all about personalizing your Princess Cruise dining experience. Customize your dining time for each day, whether making reservations for the main dining room (which is included in your fare) or at specialty restaurants (which charge a small fee). Have dinner at the same time each night or change it based on what works for you. Once on board, you can order food and drinks for delivery wherever you are through OceanNow® (kind of like Ubereats delivering your food to you while you are on the ocean!). More options at your fingertips means less time waiting in line and more time to dine your way.
OceanNow® orders can be made using the Princess Cruises App on your smartphone, via your stateroom TV, or by having a crew member place the order on the your behalf. OceanNow will include many expanded personalization options as well, so that passengers can order their favorite coffee drink, choose their favorite steak sauces, or pick the condiments they want with their sandwiches or pizza. Click here for a video tutorial showing you how to book your Dine My Way with the Princess Cruises app.
Perhaps, one of the only complaints we had with the Princess Cruise dining experience in the past was trying to make reservations each day for our evening dinner. We found the Dine My Way SM process very easy to use and useful during our recent cruises.
Princess Cruises also recently introduced a Dine Line which you may call (1-833-805-DINE) to make reservations via phone or when you are on board (dial DINE on any shipboard phone to be connected). This allows you to speak with a live person to be better assured that your reservation is made.
Select dining times for main dining rooms and specialty restaurants
Change reservations as needed. (Its flexible!)
Request the same time each night if you prefer the same waitstaff and time
Customize your food and drink orders
Share your dietary preferences and allergen information
Choose your dining pace (for example: slow, relaxed, or quick)
Let them know who is in your travel party
Easily make and edit reservations that include members of your travel party or perhaps new friends you've made on the cruise
Take your pick of a variety of eateries and dining options
Let your tastes and mood decide, anything from a celebratory multi-course meal at a specialty restaurant to pizza. (Choosing what and where you want to dine may be the only hard part!)
No need to get up! Ordered food and drinks can be delivered to you wherever you are with OceanNow®
There are more dining options onboard the Sun Princess than any of the other ships in the Princess fleet. Some of the favorite dining venues that are found on other Princess ships are still available on this ship but many more options have been added. Not only for specialty and casual dining, but also how the Main Dining Room are organized for reservations.
The available dining options are as numerous as the entertainment and activities that are offered onboard the ship. Besides the Main Dining Rooms, of which there are three of, the Sun Princess also offers several Specialty Restaurants and Casual Dining options (for an added cost). In addition, there are also many casual dining options, including the large Eatery Buffet.
The Eatery is a buffet area and is located on the Deck 9 at the aft of the ship and allows a more casual dining experience set for your own pace. From 6 am to midnight, you’ll often find plenty of well-balanced options to choose from. Stop by for breakfast and visit the designer pancake station, or enjoy one of their unique hot cereal offerings, or have a custom omelets made for you. At lunch, look for handcrafted sandwiches, regionally inspired dishes and soups, as well as many carvery selections. For dinner, there’s everything from breakfast at night, family kitchen comfort foods, stir-fry or customized pasta, plus a multitude of fresh fruit and salad choices. There is even a Grab & Go option for those on the move!
On the Sun Princess the buffet area is different from other Princess ships in that most of the food is NOT self-served but rather the crew staff will fill your plate while they stand behind glass walls. You select the items and portion amounts. This is to prevent people from handling the same serving spoons, etc. Also, on all non-sphere class Princess ships the buffet is located on the Lido deck so this new location on Deck 9 is a big change for Princess cruisers.
Often, crew staff are positioned at each entrance and ask everyone entering the area to please thoroughly wash their hands at the 2 to 4 washbasins located at each of the four entrances. Anti-bacterial gel dispensers are also located throughout the buffet area.
The buffet area is separated into two large nearly identical serving and seating areas, portside and starboard side (During slow periods they may have only one serving section open). However, I have heard that the offerings may be different on one side compared to the other so it may be worth your time to cruise through each side to see what temps your appetite. Coffee, water, and juices are set up on portable tables during breakfast, where you can order from staff or help yourself. Staff will also deliver you water, milk, lemonade, or tea to your table if requested.
There isn't a lot of seating area in The Eatery buffet area however Deck 9 has a large promenade deck with tables and lounge areas for enjoying your food outside on both sides of the ship. We have always loved to eat our breakfast or lunch outdoors to enjoy the sea view and air so we are looking forward to sitting in this area each day.
Even in the casual buffet atmosphere there were cloth napkins, porcelain plates and cups, and service was typically prompt and done with a smile.
The buffet is open for a continental breakfast from 5 am to 6 am and a full breakfast menu from 6 am to 11:30 am. Lunch is served from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm, afternoon snack time is 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm, and dinner is served from 5:30 pm to Midnight.
You will never leave the buffet area hungry.
All food, beverages, and services in the buffet area are included in your cruise fare.
The three story Horizons Dining Area contains the ship's main dining rooms and offer a soaring floor-to-ceiling windows that overlooks the ship's wake. From almost any table in the area you will be spoiled with endless views of the horizon.
Other Princess ships may have 3 to 5 separate Main Dining Rooms. However, on the Sun Princess, the Main Dining Rooms are combined into one sprawling space with each floor of the dining area serving a different purpose.
Deck 6 (Soleil MDR) is more formal and designated for Traditional dining with early seating at 5:00pm and late seating at 7:30pm. Deck 7 (Eclipse MDR) is open to guests with or without reservations (Anytime Dining). Deck 8 is the Sanctuary Restaurant. On Deck 9 (Americana Diner) has a walk-in anytime option with open seating and has a more casual approach and feels like your favorite neighborhood diner.
The extensive dinner menu will leave you full and satisfied. With so many options, even the pickest eater will find something they love.
All meals at Horizon Dining Rooms are included in your cruise fare (although the Sanctuary Restaurant is reserved for Sanctuary Collection guests).
There are two Main Dining Rooms (MDR); When it come to dinner, the Soleil MDR (Deck 6 aft) is for those passengers that have preselected reservations to dine early (usually 5:00 pm), or late (usually 7:30 pm). Soleil is open for breakfast and dinner each day, and lunch on sea days. Breakfast in the Soleil works differently than on other Princess ships: port days see a smaller "express breakfast" menu that promises to have you in and out in 30 minutes, while on sea days it offers its more traditional breakfast and brunch menu. The lunch menu on sea days also offers a "lunch bite" menu where guests can sample a variety of dishes in small portion sizes. The Soleil MDR can be tricky to find at times because there is not direct access to the area from the midship area. You typically have to take the stairs or elevator at the aft of the ship to get there. We currently have made reservations for our whole party to dine in the Soleil MDR at 5:00pm and hopefully we can be seated at the long tables next to the floor to ceiling windows so we can enjoy the view at the aft of the ship as we dine.
The Eclipse MDR (Deck 7 aft) is for passengers that have selected to use "Anytime Dining" or walk-in passengers. Lines can get long at the Eclipse MDR during prime dinner hours so make sure to use your Princess Cruises App to make nightly reservations in advance. The Eclipse MDR is only open for dinner.
Dinners are more formal, traditional affairs, typically lasting between 90 minutes to two hours, depending upon the size of the table. You can always request your wait staff for faster service and reduce this time to 60 minutes. Guests eating in both Main Dining Rooms will be expected to adhere to the dress code, which is casual for the most part except for one or two nights designated as formal nights.
The food offered in both of the Main Dining Rooms is the same for each evening, but varies from night to night, so it is always a curious surprise to see what the chefs had prepared for that evening. Menus typically can be viewed on the Princess Cruises App the day of the dinner and will be posted outside of the Main Dining Rooms to view.
The dinners consist of 3 to 4 courses, fresh baked bread brought to your table, along with your choice of beverage (coffee, tea, or water are free). Now order 1 or 2 appetizers of soups or salads. The main course gives you an option to choose from the Past, Land or Sea menus --- or order from both options. Many times you can also order a select steak or seafood option in the Main Dining Room which has been prepared in the Crown Grill Specialty Restaurant for an additional fee of $24.
If you don't see something on the menu that interests you we have heard that you can also request items that may have been served the night before.
Now top off your dinner with a decadent dessert, the award-winning choices are nearly endless! It's your vacation, so indulge! Each evening, you'll have your choice of delectable desserts to choose from in the Main Dining Rooms. Perennial guest favorites include the Princess Love Boat Dream, traditional New York cheesecake, and create-your-own sundae. Chocolate seems to be a reoccurring theme in many of these desserts.
All food and services in the Main Dining Rooms are included in your cruise fare (except special orders).
So what type of foods will you find on a typical Princess Cruise menu? Click here for the 2025 dinner menus for Princess cruises of up to 10 days. Keep in mind that some menu items do vary depending on the specific ship and itinerary, for example, there were some special seafood items added to these menus on our Alaskan cruise. Also, the menus won't always be presented in this exact order, but these should give you a pretty good idea of what to expect for dinner in the Main Dining Rooms on your Princess cruise in 2026.
The Americana Diner (Deck 9 aft) located directly behind The Eatery buffet area at the aft end of the ship is typically open for breakfast (6 am to 10:30 am), brunch (10:30 am to 2:30 pm), and dinner (6 pm to 10 pm). Breakfast foods can be found on the menu all day. This is a very casual dining venue offering a set menu of American classics like burgers and fries, buttermilk pancakes, shrimp, nachos, fish and chips, milkshakes, and Buffalo wings. Food here is tasty and uncomplicated however portions are small for some dishes. Your food may also be delivered to your table via a robot waiter!
All food and services are included in your cruise fare.
To experience a premium dining adventure you may want to consider indulging in an extraordinary treat for both gastronomes and gourmet novices. The Chef's Table is a perfect culinary journey for any special occasion. Join a select group of 12 guests for a behind the scenes galley tour with champagne and hors d'oeuvres, followed by an extravagant multi-course dinner selected, created, and hosted by the ship's executive chef. At the end of this exclusive and unique dining experience, each of the guests are presented with a photo book capturing the evening's experience and a Princess Cruise recipe book signed by the chef. This table is limited to 12 guests, reservations are required, and costs $150 per guest ($120 without wine). This experience is only offered a few times during a 14 day cruise period and you have to visit the main desk as soon as boarding to get on the list. Located in the Eclipse MDR (Deck 7 aft).
Located on Deck 8 aft, the Sanctuary Restaurant is reserved exclusively for Sanctuary Collection guests. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You will enjoy a custom chef's menu and dedicated waitstaff and dining room. No need for reservations and no waiting. An elevated dining experience is ready whenever you are.
Princess Cruises has teamed with some acclaimed master chefs to offer their guests some innovative dining options. You may want to try some of these upscale Specialty Restaurants options during your cruise. Reservations are suggested (book prior to the cruise via the Princess Cruises app) and a per person cover charge or a la carte charges will apply. It can be more difficult to get a reservation for some of these venues since some of them maybe free to those purchasing the Plus or Premier packages.
We have chosen to not eat dinner at a Specialty Restaurant during a "formal" night as often the Main Dining Rooms may offer a more enhanced menu (steak and lobster) during these more formal evenings.
While the cost of the specialty dining venues seems high, it is much lower than most other cruise lines and is a better value then what you would ever find in a land based restaurant. However, the cover charges were raised to $45 in 2023 and to $60 in April, 2005 making these specialty dining options not as attractive since the food in the Main Dining Room is typically suitable for us. In addition there is an 18% automatic gratuity charge added to the price so the $60 cost comes to $70.80 !!
The Sun Princess has more specialty dining options than any other Princess ship in the fleet.
For a detailed video review of most of the specialty dining options onboard the Sun Princess view the video below
A refined steakhouse that serves aged and hand cut, cooked-to-order steaks and premium seafood, including grilled shrimp and lobster. Dario Cecchini, an Italian butcher from Panzano, Italy is often referred to as the world’s most famous butcher — especially since an entire episode of Netflix’ s Chef Table was dedicated to his work in 2019 — partnered with Princess Cruises to open The Butcher’s Block by Dario on the Sun Princess. Despite the fact that The Butcher’s Block by Dario is dedicated to all things beef, it is the best restaurant for vegetarians on board the Sun Princess. Meals are served family style with a wide assortment of meats to try.
Located on Deck 7 forward.
Savor a fusion of world class Japanese cuisine including Teppanyaki and Hot Pot. This is where teppan cuisine and spectacular showmanship meet. Gather around a shared table and prepare to be mesmerized as your personal chef takes center stage, showcasing dazzling skills while expertly juggling meats, seafood, poultry, and fresh vegetables on a sizzling teppanyaki grill. This is an "eat-ertainment" experience that you will not want to miss. Also in this area you can indulge in a traditional Hot Pot dinner where each table is outfitted with a pot in the center where guests can prepare their meats, vegetables, and noodles in the boiling savory broth.
Located on Deck 8 midship
Makoto Ocean is a collaboration between famed chef Makoto Okuwa and Princess Cruises to bring the best of Edomae-style sushi to Sun Princess passengers. The excellent Omakase menu consists of nine generous courses, including edamame; miso soup; tuna tartare; a variety of nigiri, sushi, and temaki; and mochi ice cream for dessert.
Located on Deck 8 near the Piazza and unfortunately it can be a quite loud area to enjoy your meal
Love by Britto is a collaboraton between world famous Brazilian artist Romero Britto and Princess Cruises to offer guests a dining experience that is centered around the theme of love. This restaurant is the perfect setting for a romantic meal; secluded and offers the best sea view found anywhere on the ship thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows all around. The decor, including the menu, the dinnerware, and the cutlery, all bear a multitude of hearts. The menu is fixed and includes oysters, tuna tartare, beef tenderloin, and more. The price for this "experience" was actually reduced from $79 to $60 and covered by the Princess Premier package in April, 2025 so it will likely sell out before the cruise starts.
Located on the very aft of the ship on Deck 17 aft
Choose a luxurious breakfast or experience the "ultimate" romantic dinner at sea: a sumptuous four-course meal, including succulent lobster tail and juicy steak, your beverage of choice, hors d’oeuvres, all served right on your balcony or in your stateroom and served by the dedicated waitstaff.
Besides the The Eatery Buffet, the Sun Princess also offers many other casual dining options to consider. Some of these dining venue options are included in your cruise fare while some items may be a la carte or may incur a cover charge.
Enjoy specialty coffee and tea favorites, along with a large variety of pastries, sandwiches, desserts, salads and quick bites. This venue is open 24 hours per day and is located midship near the Piazza area on Deck 9. This is one of our favorite places to grab a pastry or a light desert and a cup of coffee and sit and people watch or enjoy some of the seemingly always present entertainment in the Piazza area.
Food items here are free, coffee and tea is a la carte. Since The Eatery is so close you may want to consider going there for free coffee.
Coffee Currents, located on Deck 7 near the Piazza, has skilled baristas who will whip up the perfect drink to suit every taste. It also offers an array of delectable snacks including fresh-from-the-bakery croissants, Danish, and muffins that complement that perfect brew along with afternoon tea with scones, sandwiches, and other treats. Guests can grab their caffeine fix to go or linger over a coffee while enjoying Piazza entertainment or the magnificent ocean views from the sphere windows in the comfortable adjacent lounge area.
If you find the wait for coffee to be too slow at the International Cafe on Deck 9, come down two decks to get your coffee here as lines are usually shorter.
Food items here are free, coffee, tea, and alcohol items are a la carte.
Alredo's Pizzeria serves up some of the most delicious pizza with classics like the Margherita Pizza and more creative pies like the Amici Perfetti with gorgonzola, mozzarella, sliced pear, and toasted pistachio. Voted "Best Pizza at Sea"
Located on Deck 9 near the Piazza.
Traditional Irish pub with live music, interactive entertainment and mouthwatering menu items including the freshly-ground ribeye-blend Bushmills Blue Burger and the O’Malley’s Burger patties, dressed with Bushmills Whiskey glaze. Located in heart of the ship adjacent to the Piazza and open for lunch, dinner and late-night fare, O’Malley’s serves up comfort food at its best - pub-style Fish & Chips, Traditional Bangers & Mash, Shepherd’s Pie – along with casual and friendly banter and possibly even a wee bit of blarney. This venue could also be listed on the Entertainment Page because of the entertainment provided while dining.
Located on Deck 7 midship.
Several casual grab-and-go venues are offered outdoors on The Promenade Deck 9 aft adjacent to The Eatery. Selections here include burgers, tacos, pizza, and soft serve ice cream.
The Promenade Grill and Bar have outdoor food counters on the port side and serve up quick and tasty favorites such as burgers, fries, and tacos. Pizza and soft serve ice cream are served on the starboard side. The Pizza here is said to be a thicker crust compared to the Lido Slice Pizza. Guests can sit at a mix of covered tables and lounge seating open to the sky or an aft view, covered deck close to the waterline.
All food is included in your cruise fare.
On the Lido Deck 17 midship you will find Coffee & Cones, a venue offering coffee, granitas, ice cream, and Premium Desserts. The menu is a la carte.
(Hint - during Movies Under The Stars you can also find free popcorn and cookies here to enjoy during the movie)
Made fresh daily onboard using authentic Italian ingredients and the freshest fruit, the handcrafted gelato offers an irresistible selection of flavors—including Nutella, caramello salato (salted caramel), and a variety of dairy-free, fat-free, and sugar-free options. A refreshing sweet treat you’re bound to love. You can also purchase coffee here. The menu is a la carte.
Located on Deck 7 midship across from Princess Live
Located on the Lido Deck 17 midship and forward of the Lido pool area are these very casual dining venues:
Lido Casual Dining Venue Menus
All food is included in your cruise fare.

Hamburgers, fries, and hotdogs including Princes Signature, Chefs Classic, Veggies burgers, New York or Bratwurst hotdogs.

So you don't feel like leaving your room? No problem, as 24-hour complimentary room service is also available when you want to enjoy a quiet moment in your stateroom munching on a club sandwich or maybe that slice of chocolate fudge cake. Breakfast orders can be placed the night before by dialing "room service" on your stateroom phone or by using the Princess Cruises App on your smartphone. For cruises after August 12, 2023 a $5 charge will be assessed to those travelers with the standard fare booking and free for Plus or Premier packages. (this does not apply for orders placed the night before by hanging a requested breakfast order on your cabin door)
Charges apply for balcony breakfast and dinner, pizza delivery, bottled soft drinks and alcoholic beverages. Subject to change.
One thing we finally found time to do on our recent cruises was to indulge in the Princess Cruise afternoon tea tradition in one of the Main Dining Rooms.
Unfortunately, this free perk has been replaced on the Sun Princes with "Royal Afternoon Tea with Royal Chef Darren McGrady", a former chef for Queen Elizabeth. It is now held in the Good Spirts At Sea Lounge (Deck 7 forward) and reservations are required. During the event, via visual media, McGrady shares his experiences and stories while guest enjoy a premium Afternoon Tea service with scones, tea sandwiches, gourmet cookies, and pastries and specialty teas.
Although we did not partake of the Afternoon Tea much we will miss having the opportunity to do so on the Sun Princess unless we choose to pay for it. ☹️
If you are considering getting a beverage package - DON'T DO IT. The Princess Plus and Premier packages will always work out better because they include more than beverages. Things like Wi-Fi, crew incentives, etc. typically make those packages a better bargain.
The actual cost of some of these beverage packages are actually much higher than you might expect due to the 18% gratuity charge that is applied to them. Click here to find out which beverage packages you should never buy!
If you really want your can of Diet Coke you can bring up to 12 cans onboard with you. Unfortunately, if you do this during embarkation you will have to carry it around with you until your stateroom is ready for you. You may want to consider bringing a few cans with you and perhaps pick some up at each port stop.
Many beverages are included in your cruise fare, such as water (excluding bottled water), coffee (excluding specialty coffee), tea, milk, lemonade, and juices which are found in the buffet, Main Dining Rooms, and other dining venues onboard.
If you like to drink water, we would suggest not purchasing the offered bottled water which is left in your stateroom, but rather bring a reusable bottle onboard to refill as needed. The ship's water is safe to drink as they have a state-of-the-art water treatment and purification system onboard the ship. Ice dispensers are available at the The Eatery Buffet, or ice can be delivered to your stateroom by your room steward. We have also found pitchers filled with ice water available near the pool areas.
If you prefer to have specialty coffees, teas, bottled water, alcoholic beverages, or "pop" you can also purchase beverage packages to allow you more beverage options as detailed below.
As you will see, cruise lines can accrue a lot of extra money from passengers who may wish to indulge their thirsts with something other than the beverages included with their cruise fare. Even with the Premier Beverage Package, guests still must purchase any bottled wines and cannot share their beverages with others. I cannot imagine the amount of additional money that people who indulge in drinking alcoholic beverages may tend to spend during a cruise.
You can bring an unlimited amount of non-alcoholic beverages such as soda beverages or water, either in cans or in bottles (plastic bottles are prohibited), onboard in or on your luggage or carry-on bag if you have room to fit them, or pack another suitcase with beverages if you can't do without your Mountain Dew each day! Hopefully they do not open during luggage handling.
Unfortunately, Princess has eliminated the coffee package 😡
This package includes all sodas, fruit juices, mocktails, and smoothies.
The Classic Soda Package is $17.69 per person, per day.
This package includes six cans of soda for the price of five. (Service charge is included). You have a choice of any six canned sodas (Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Diet Sprite, orange soda, soda water, tonic water, and ginger ale) in any combination. Contact room services to arrange delivery to your stateroom once onboard.
The package is $21.40 for six cans
