Have you come up with a creative teaching approach for your classroom or lab? Do you have a physical resource (a model, game, puzzle, paper based or interactive learning tools) which you've developed or implemented? Have you developed digital resources...simple animations or a full-blown website which augments learner experiences?
Join in our adult-version of show and tell because we all could use more inspiration in our teaching journey!
Please indicate on the registration form if you are bringing something physically or (if it is to cumbersome), a recording, pictures or even a poster to display so that we can plan for appropriate space!
We are interested in all the wonderful work completed and being undertaken across the country. While this inagural conference is reserving the 'formal' poster presentations for our trainees, if you have a poster of some of your recent work we invite you to bring it along.
Again, to facilitate space planning, please let us know if you are bringing 'Recycled Research' so we know how many poster boards we'll need.
Our sincere hope is that this opportunity will spark not only conversations but future collaborations (big and small) in anatomy research!
Technical/Coordinators:
We are thrilled to be able to include our amazing support staff (admins, technicians and donation coordinators) to this meeting! Teaching in a lab is not possible without these essential colleagues and look forward to incorporating their perspectives into our discussions. Given their unique role, we are planning a side-meeting to support discussions related to challenges, successes and future directions for technical processes. A tour of the Division of Anatomy's facilities, Museum, and Plastination lab will be included.
*this meeting is for technicians, academics and faculty only*
Biomedical Communication Hot topics:
Many of us are fortunate to have been able to collaboratively work with Biomedical Illustrators & Animators and we think it makes perfect sense to include them in our discussions as well! Some 'hot topics' related to Biomedical Illustration/ Communication will be shared - all are welcome to join in!
The CARE Conference provides a platform to introduce a new initiative: The Canadian Collaborative of Anatomical Educators.
In brief, the aim of this organization is to bring together anatomists across canada in membership, to advance excellence in anatomical education by fostering collaboration, innovation and professional growth mong educators, researchers and students.
We invite educators to join this session to learn more about how CCAE membership will create a national network and highlight our main initiatives aimed at addressing unique challenges to anatomy programs as well as enhancing sharing resources, developing leadership and strategic support to our faculty and staff.
A highlight of this session, will be an expert panel discussion introducing our first initiative....
"Vision and Priorities for a Nation-wide Approach to Managing our Legacy Collections" which may be of interest to many.
Session I:
We will be able to offer a mini-workshop for any trainee (undergrad, grad, post-doc). The focus of this facilitated, active workshop will be on dossier development where you will have an opportunity to:
develop or bolster your teaching & EDI statements
create strong cover letters & CVs
refine your research statements
In order to finalize our facilitators, trainees must indicate their interest in attending the workshop in the registration.
Session II:
Aimed at anyone interested in gaining more insight into peer review processes and publishing. Join Professor Jason Organ, the Editor-in-Chief of the Anatomical Sciences Education Journal as he shares his expertise in this area and offers an opportunity for your questions about publishing do's and don'ts to be answered!
In addition to being involved in any of the formal (poster submission) and informal opportunities (recycled research) there will also be opportunities for those learners and professionals in the Biomedical Illustration/Communication field to showcase their work. This will be a great networking opportunity!!
Posterboards are available to hang up examples of your work as well as providing a biosketch and contact or website information. You are welcome to also bring examples in digital forms (tablet, laptop). Please note that we cannot provide table space for this, so we encourage displays that lend themselves to posterboard set-ups.
Should you wish to sell/highlight 'products' that you have created (ie., if you have an Etsy store, pop-up shops, sellable materials in the anatomy world) then you would need to apply and reserve a paid table for the "Artisan Alley". Information and application is found HERE
Throughout the weekend, we are proud to offer participants an opportunity to tour our Anatomy Division, higlighting the historic Grant's Museum. The specimens housed and maintained in our Museum are the original resoures from which the famed Grant's Atlas was illustrated.
Additionally, plans are underway to also visit the University of Toronto's Fischer Rare Book Library to view rare anatomical texts such as a first edition Vesalius!
*VISITS are planned for 3:00-5:00pm on FRIDAY May 29, 2026. There will be limited spots, so a sign-up will be released in April.
