The Hong Kong Disease Modelling Laboratory

The Hong Kong Disease Modelling Laboratory was established in 2018. It is at the forefront of disease modelling and developing state-of-the-art, artificial intelligence-enhanced, Chinese-specific predictive risk models. We use a big data approach, capturing multidimensional data from routinely collected electronic health records (eHR) for accurate predictions. 

Our cross-functional team develop AI models that can be implemented into eHR systems and simpler web-based calculators for ease of use at the bedside or in the community. A summary of our developed models is shown below:

ChineseCVD (2023) is first-in-world, web-based, Chinese-specific Cardiovascular Risk Calculator incorporating long COVID, COVID-19 vaccination, SGLT2i and PCSK9i treatment effects

PowerAI-Diabetes (2021)

PowerAI-Diabetes (2021) is the third-in-world, Chinese-specific AI-driven predictive model for predicting diabetic complications. Our team was also first-in-world to incorporate lipid and glycemic variability into an AI-driven predictive model, using random survival forest.
