Welcome to the first ANIMAL AWESOME of the 2023-2024 School year! To celebrate this achievement of 1 year of these articles, we will look at Cardinals, a beloved bird in Palos 118. Anyways, here are some facts about cardinals you might not know!
1. Male Cardinals look vastly different from Female Cardinals. While male cardinals are plump with red feathers, female cardinals are less appealing, with Muted red and Yellow Colors.
2. Cardinals are medium sized birds, weighing between 22 and 48 Grams, with Northern cardinals being the biggest and the smallest being Vermillion Cardinals being the smallest.
3. Cardinals are not endangered luckily. However, they could be at risk of extinction if their habitat loss and other factors are not addressed.
4. According to Native American lore, if a cardinal is spotted, it is a sign you will get good luck within the next 12 days.
5. The Northern Cardinal is what our school and our sports teams mascot, Charlie cardinal, is based off of.
